Posting Identification Number  38378 Position Overview The Sewage Plant Operation position, located at the Dixon Correctional Center will be a part of the maintenance team working in an industrial setting to monitor operating conditions of the facility. The primary role of the sewage plant operator is to collect and test sewage samples to stay within IEPA parameters, controlling machinery and equipment, coordinating with fellow employees, and monitoring meters and gauges. This position requires the candidate to have an E.P.A. Class III Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certificate, as well as an E.P.A. Class "B" Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate. Job Responsibilities Performs a variety of manual tasks in the operation of the sewage wastewater treatment plant. Performs daily tests to ensure efficient proper plant operations. Supervises individual in custody workers in all aspects of normal and emergency plant operation, including building/grounds maintenance and sludge conditioning/removal. Serves as back-up to the Water Plant Operator. Remains up-to-date and in compliance with Departmental Rules, Administrative Directives, Institutional Directives, Institutional Policies, and IEPA regulations. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above. Minimum Qualifications Requires knowledge, skill, and mental developmental equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school, with a course in chemistry. Requires three (3) years of experience in sewage treatment plant operation. Preferred Qualifications Prefers at least four (4) years of experience inspecting and repairing pumps, motors, aerators, gauges, and meters. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience operating and maintaining trickling filters, sludge management systems with sludge land application, sewage collection systems, and laboratory analysis. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience taking daily tests from processing tanks, at intervals. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience drawing samples from sewage effluent. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience of analyzing sewage effluent to prevent water pollution. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience treating sludge with chemicals. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience maintaining equipment, machines, and systems used in sewage plant. Prefers at least four (4) years of experience removing and disposing of solids from bar screens and trash racks. Conditions of Employment Requires possession of an E.P.A. Class III Wastewater Treatment Works Operator Certificate. Requires possession of an EPA Class "B" Water Treatment Plant Operator Certificate. Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
