The College of Education at Lipscomb University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor for doctoral programs.
In additional to teaching doctoral courses, this position serves as the Doctoral Research Coordinator responsible for the recruitment, screening, and development of dissertation research that focuses upon actual research needs of partnering educational organizations, which will be researched by Ed.D. students. The coordinator also advises Ph.D. students on the conceptualization of independent dissertation research. The coordinator works with and serves on the doctoral research faculty committee to determine which research proposals will be developed, accepted, or declined. This position also serves as a doctoral faculty advisor and committee member.
This position reports to the Director of the Doctor of Education and Ph.D. in Leadership and Policy programs.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities: Teach doctoral courses as assigned (position carries 60% teaching and 40% administrative load) Engage in the recruitment of educational organizations (potential clients) who have specific research needs that can be addressed via the dissertation research of Ed.D. students Advise Ph.D. students on the conceptualization of independent dissertation research Manage process for the submission and screening of research proposals from potential clients Meet with the doctoral research selection committee about all research proposals Manage communications on behalf of the doctoral program with potential and accepted clients during the dissertation process Manage the MOU process for each accepted research proposal and client in accordance with approved university guidelines and the university General Council's office Manage the university's account with ProQuest and advise all doctoral students regarding the formatting, submission, and uploading of final manuscripts into ProQuest Keep abreast of current and emerging issues and research needs in education by attending meetings, professional forums, events, and other opportunities that may provide introduction to potential clients and research needs Job Specifications/Position Qualifications (minimum): The successful candidate will have an earned doctorate and will specialize in teaching and mentoring doctoral students. Proficiency with doctoral level research methods (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods) is required. An entrepreneurial spirit and excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills (one-on-one and classroom teaching) are critical to success. Experience in problem-based learning, teaching with an array of distance learning technologies, teaching in blended learning formats, and evidence of management skills applicable to an academic program are desired. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of or potential for research, leadership, and the ability to work collaboratively with on-campus and off-campus colleagues and constituencies. Education: Ph.D. or Ed.D. Experience: Skills in research methodology (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods), teaching in higher education, doctoral level teaching preferred.
Job Related Skills: Administrative and teaching experience. Strong knowledge and management skills associated with planning, organizing, implementing, and assessing academic programs.
