SHELTER MANAGER - Monday through Friday, 8:30a-4:30p/10a-6p, flexible. On-site position; remote work is not available.
Reporting to the Shelter Director, this position assists in the development and daily administration of programs for the Shelter. Protects clients' confidentiality at all times and ensures the safety and security of all Shelter staff and residents. Maintains the Shelter residence and property in good condition at all times. Provides leadership to Shelter staff and residents, operating in an atmosphere of dignity, respect, and trust.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Ensure that the Shelter is supervised 24 hours a day, seven days a week; create, adjust, and monitor monthly staff schedule. Provide coverage when all other emergency coverage means have been unsuccessful and provide two weeks per month of on-call management; assist night and weekend staff as needed during emergencies. Manage donation intake and distribution; complete proper documentation. Organize and publish client chore lists and ensure completion of all assignments. With the Shelter Director, facilitate and coordinate bi-weekly staff meetings with Shelter team members. Support, train, and monitor Shelter Advocates. Operations Order and track inventory of food and other supplies, keeping within the operating budget. Plan, conduct, and document monthly fire drills; and follow up on fire safety with residential clients. Ready the Shelter for the annual New York State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) and Department of Social Services (DSS) inspections. Administration Monitor the daily log activities for appropriate details; provide follow-up and feedback as needed for staff. Oversee that all policies and procedures are followed at the Shelter. Process hotline intakes; enter intake information for the hotline into the client database. Enter client information and activities into the client database; ensure record-keeping and statistical data collection. Oversee the organization of food and supplies and client donations. In the absence of the Case Manager, review individual incident reports with clients. QUALIFICATIONS BA in Social Work or related field preferred and 2+ years of experience in any of the following areas: social work, women's studies, psychology, counseling, or Human Services Administration, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the duties of the position. One year of leadership experience is required. Earn and maintain Suffolk County Food Handler Certification.
Required capabilities: Demonstrated dependability and initiative; ability to handle crises autonomously. Excellent interpersonal skills; empathetic listener. Must maintain program/client/agency confidentiality and treat clients, staff, and volunteers with dignity and respect. Must be fluent in Word, Excel, and Google Docs. Other requirements: Must have a valid New York State Driver's License (Required). Bilingual / Spanish (Preferred). THE RETREAT, INC.
