This position provides training and supervision to teachers to assure that classroom instructional objectives and strategies are congruent with the curriculum, and mentors teachers as they develop and enhance their instructional skills. This position supports the teaching staff in identifying and/or designing appropriate educational resources that implement the IEP.
Provides expertise for SDCA in curriculum research and development.
Assists teachers in creating an optimal learning environment for students by providing regular feedback on instructional techniques, reviewing lesson plans, conducting classroom observations and providing training in the areas on curriculum and instruction.
Participates as an active member of SDCA's operations and treatment teams.
Assists the teachers in integrating technology into their instructional strategies.
Assists the Behavior Analyst in ensuring that special education laws and standards regarding teaching endorsements, curriculum requirements, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), regulations and other professional criteria are met and exceeded.
Ensures that all job placements comply with child labor laws, including laws on compensation and work expectations.
May serve as administrative representation at IEP meetings and assures all procedural steps in the IEP process are met.
Assists the Behavior Analyst in ensuring the effective implementation of IEPs and Individualized Alternative Education Plans (IAEPs) in the classroom to include Transitional and Vocational services.
Ensures that teaching occurs in accordance with Virginia endorsement, curriculum requirements of SDCA, and professional criteria, including meeting the SOLs, IEPs and IAEPs through on-going communication with Behavior Analyst .
Provides leadership to the development and implementation of individualized educational plans, procedures, and document flow, in accordance with the Villa's policies and procedures, and governing regulatory, licensing and accrediting bodies.
Assists the Behavior Analyst in supervising student teaching placements.
Tracks developing trends in innovative teaching techniques, evaluating emerging methodologies for appropriateness for St. Joseph's Villa's student population and objectives. Makes recommendations to adopt new methodologies.
Develops and presents formal in-service trainings to enhance teaching staff's knowledge of and proficiency with instructional modalities to support the students' individual learning needs.
Identifies, evaluates, and recommends adoption of educational resources appropriate for students, recognizing their individual needs and objectives.
Evaluates teaching staff's utilization of varied instructional approaches and provides feedback to the staff and to the Behavior Analyst. Analyzes effectiveness of instructional methodologies and/or content and makes recommendations for continuous improvement.
Masters degree in Special Education, valid Virginia teaching license with endorsement in an area of developmental disability, and three to five years teaching experience with relevant population required. Proficiency with MSOffice Suite (Word, Excel, Windows, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Internet research, valid Virginia driver's license, and good driving record also required.
