The Birch Agency is ready to lock in an Educational American Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming school year. This job is locate minutes away from Fort Myers, Florida near North Port, Florida.
This ASL job starts in August and will end in May. We need an ASL with formal interpreting training; school experience; and/or is a child of a deaf adult(s). Education/Training The Sign Language Interpreter must have some formal training, schooling, outside of high school. Solid history, knowledge, and understanding of the D/HH. Solid understanding of the D/HH communicative skills such as a CODA. Or, and educational sign language interpreter. Job Details Experienced with classroom interpreting Provide sign language interpretive services as specified in the IEP. Interpret information, lectures, discussion, classroom activities, school meetings, trainings, and conferences. Prepare and study subject matter being taught or presented to ensure clear interpretation. Adapts interpretations to the varying and diverse needs and abilities of students, and/or teachers and staff. Provides interpretation for various situations, such as assemblies, field trips, meetings, test administration, phone calls, music, extra-curricular activities, and sports events Interprets informal conversations with students and staff during unstructured time Participate as a team member for planning and reviewing daily activities, attending in-services and information sharing for the purpose of optimizing the staff and student participation in the educational environment Provide staff with information regarding the interpretation process as well as needs and concerns of individuals who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing Teachers for the purpose of creating a positive Deaf friendly climate Collaborate with Teachers of the D/HH, other classroom teachers and other school staff to provide the optimum educational opportunities So, whether you are starting your career as an interpreting.
