Job Summary: The primary responsibility of the Educator, Area Agriculture will be to support the state coordinator in various aspects of integrating Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) into our state outreach program.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities: The goal is to enhance awareness and encourage the adoption of sustainable agriculture practices among limited-resource farmers across a multi-county region in southwest and central Mississippi.
Essential Job Functions : Assist the state coordinator in organizing training activities (workshops, field days, etc.) set forth in SARE programs. Assist state coordinator in establishing farm trials that address state and local needs at off campus centers and model farms. Maintain the sustainable agriculture materials generated by the project. · Assist with the promotion of all SARE-related programs and projects. Assist with the collection of data, evaluation and reports. Assist with grant writing, budgeting, and provide input in the development of educational programs. · Provide communication and seek additional contacts with stakeholders. Serve as a Sustainable Agriculture liaison for the 1890 institutions. Provide a link with National, Regional, and other State SARE programs. Prepare extension outreach materials like fact sheets, trifolds, brochures for disseminating information to the limited resources farmers. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Other Duties Support extension program and assist with new extension curriculum development. Make presentations orally or on posters of applied research results at conferences or meetings. Work with clientele across a wide range of socio-economic classes. Develop and maintain relationships with extension educators that lead to substantial applied research that directly benefits producers across the region. Other related duties, as assigned. Qualifications: M. S. in Plant Science/ Horticulture/Agronomy, or a closely related field Hands-on experience in Sustainable Agriculture practices. At least 1 Yr. Experience in outreach and extension activities. Hands-on experience in applied field research. Must be willing to do farm visits and travel to state events as needed. Demonstrated ability to hold the interest of an audience. Licensing and Certifications : N/A
