Position Summary:
The IT EHR Educator serves as a technical resource and clinical liaison to medical staff and other patient care staff.
As a subject matter expert on the interaction between clinical process and technical functionality, this position contributes to the development, design, implementation, and education of staff in the use of healthcare information systems including the electronic health record.
This position is responsible for developing and implementing educational programs and activities that promote and technical competency of clinical and support staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Educates end user staff on use of the hospital information systems using various and appropriate approaches - classroom hands-on, one-on-one, e-learning, guidelines and simple practice notifications - and in various hospital settings.
Sources, creates, develops, edits and maintains curriculum and course content.
Seeks collaboration with, and obtains approval of, medical leadership, Quality Director, HIM Director and IT CIO regarding curriculum content for various learners.
Requires collaborators to acknowledge and reference hospital policies in their workflows processes so the policies can be referenced in the learning material.
Develops electronic competency exams, with collaboration of appropriate leaders.
Assists leadership to develop and maintain downtime procedures for all departments, using a common template.
Serves the hospital and IT as the primary technical support analyst for use of the hospital's learning management system.
Serves the hospital and IT as the primary technical support analyst for a few common, basic content development applications such as Adobe Captivate or Microsoft Capture.
For software changes, recommends and coordinates the communication, notification and education of the operational impact to appropriate leadership and superusers.
Ensures learning course materials include: standardized title, names of authors/collaborators, table of contents, estimated time duration for completion, page numbering, version date, and competency tests.
Provides monthly summary in electronic format of learner completion activity.
Stores electronic versions of all content in an organized shared folder, including an archive of retired versions.
Utilizes the process of systematic inquiry to develop educational activities.
Utilizes current task and requests tracking systems to manage day-to-day priorities and escalates issues to the appropriate IT staff or management personnel.
Researches and recommends procurement options for equipment, software and other resources to advance learning effectiveness.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree Minimum 1 - 3 years of experience is required Hospital experience, MEDITECH clinical application and documentation systems is highly desired Hospital IT software application experience is preferred
