One of the nations premiere pharmaceutical manufacturing firms is looking for a Director of EHS to fill a critical site leadership position. Director levelGreater Washington, DC AreaKey Responsibilities Contribute to high-level decision-making, driving key goals around safety, operational efficiency, and cost management.Lead the development and execution of the site's EHS strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational and legal standards.Build and manage an effective EHS team capable of addressing both daily operations and emerging challenges.Set, monitor, and achieve EHS objectives, while ensuring compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.Advise leadership on EHS risks, compliance matters, and budgetary needs for EHS initiatives.Oversee the management and performance evaluation of external EHS service providers.Coordinate and manage risk assessments, mitigation efforts, and escalation procedures across site operations.Ensure key EHS risks are documented, discussed, and addressed in the site's risk management processes.Lead the development and testing of emergency response, crisis management, and business continuity plans.Ensure EHS considerations are fully integrated into capital projects, product launches, and other operational changes.Oversee health services, including occupational health management and wellness programs for employees.Monitor and analyze incident reports to identify root causes and drive corrective actions.Continuously improve the site's EHS management framework, including policies, training, and communication systems.Establish and track EHS targets and objectives, ensuring they align with overall business goals.Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field (safety, engineering, industrial hygiene, etc.
).10+ years of experience in EHS management, including risk assessment and compliance in a manufacturing or operational setting.Relevant certifications, such as CIH or CSP, are required.Strong knowledge of EHS regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA) and their application in the workplace.Demonstrated success in managing EHS risks and leading improvements in safety and compliance programs.Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree or additional certifications (e.g., CHMM) preferred.Proven leadership experience and excellent communication skills.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Project, and EHS-related software.Experience in regulated industries, such as biotech or manufacturing, and familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).Membership in relevant professional organizations.
