The Electrician role exists in multiple departments within the City of Phoenix with hours, duties, and positions varying in each department; positions may be assigned to shop or field locations.
Electricians perform journeyman-level electrician work in the maintenance, construction, installation, alteration, modification, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures in accordance with standard practices of the electrical trade for primarily commercial and industrial applications.


Working irregular shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call or standby for emergency support and requests may be required for all departments and will receive supplemental pay accordingly.
Assignments are received through sketches, blueprints, work orders, and verbally.

Aviation Department

Partnering with our community to provide world-class airport services to every customer, every day.


Responsibilities include: Maintaining, constructing, installing, and repairing various electrical systems, from airfield lighting to medium-voltage gear.
Ensuring the smooth operation of our commercial and industrial electrical systems.
Performing preventive maintenance and occasional electronics metering.
Phoenix Convention Center

The Phoenix Convention Center and Venues is one of the premier convention facilities in the United States, hosting a diverse range of conventions, trade shows, meetings, and entertainment events, twenty hours per day seven days per week.


Available Shifts Four, ten-hour day or evening shifts.
Sunday - Wednesday or Wednesday - Saturday.
Public Works Department

The Public Works Department strives to improve the quality of life in Phoenix through the efficient delivery of outstanding solid waste, fleet, facilities, and energy management services.


Responsibilities include: Installing, maintaining, repairing and replacing electrical wiring systems, equipment and lighting systems.
Working up to 480 VAC energized with proper PPE may be required.
Performing preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
Documenting findings in a central maintenance database.
Providing excellent customer service to ensure service is provided to internal and external requests.
Operating earth-moving, pneumatic, and aerial equipment up to 120'.
Providing project leadership of other electrical team members including apprentices to complete job tasks.
Using desktop and mobile devices for data entry, communication, and time entry.
Certain assignments may include electronics metering and instrumentation and working with various voltages.
Available Shifts Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday 1st shift 6:30 A.M.- 5:00 P.M. 2nd shift 1:00 P.M. -11:30 P.M. 3rd shift 11:00 P.M. - 9:30 A.M. Street Transportation Department

The Street Transportation Department installs, maintains, and operates traffic signals throughout the City of Phoenix to allow the safe and efficient flow of vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians.


Responsibilities include: Constructing, remodeling, and maintaining signalized intersections.
Providing electrical and construction work throughout the City of Phoenix.
Installing underground conduits and pole bases.
Erecting and dressing signal equipment.
Installing electrical services.
Pulling and terminating multi-conductor cable.
Obtaining and maintaining a commercial driver's license.
Available Shifts 6:50 A.M. - 3:20 P.M. Monday - Friday Water Services Department

The Water Services Electrician position performs journeyman-skilled electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems up to 12,470 volts for primarily commercial and industrial applications.


Responsibilities include: Electronics metering, instrumentation, and working with various voltages.
Troubleshooting complex motor control wiring.
Installing and repairing equipment in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) standard.
Following industry standards of the electrical trade.
Work assignments are received by the Electrical Crew Chief, Lead Electrician, this position also trains new and current staff, as needed.
Available Shifts
Monday - Friday, 8-hour shifts Monday - Thursday or Tuesday - Friday, 10-hour shifts IDEAL CANDIDATE Aviation Department Ability to communicate with team members and supervisors verbally and electronically.
Ability to focus on delivering high-quality work.
Phoenix Convention Center Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
Public Works Department Ability to guide and mentor other team members.
Proficient using desktop and mobile devices.
Street Transportation Department Proficient in blueprint reading and application.
Ability to: Trouble shoot electrical circuits.
Understand the hazards and perform work in high vehicle traffic areas.
Work "call out" to repair damaged or inoperative traffic signal equipment.
Coordinate and monitor work performed by Electricians and Electrical apprentices.
Water Services Department Competency working with equipment in the electrical utility, mining, or a commercial/industrial environment.
Knowledge and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for both 600V level and Medium Voltage levels.
SALARY $35.08 - $40.61 per hour base wage. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, training, and internal equity.


Additional compensation includes: Shift differential pay is available for hours worked during nights and weekends.
Standby is currently compensated at $2.50 per hour.
Callout requests and responses are paid at time and a half normal hourly wage.
Paid time off includes 13.5 paid holidays, 12 vacation days, and 15 sick days and personal leave days.
401(a), 3.62% employer contribution of base wage for Unit 002 employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Completion of a recognized four-year electrical apprenticeship program, or equivalent training.
OR three years of experience as a skilled electrician.
Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

Working conditions and environment may require working: At heights up to 100 feet.
Moving objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Irregular hours, second and/or third shifts, weekends, holidays, and evenings.
In small, cramped areas such as ceiling crawl spaces and equipment enclosures.
In various outdoor environmental extremes such as heat, cold, rain, air pollution, and dust.
Walking for prolonged periods which may include walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces.
Local travel within the City of Phoenix between facilities.
All finalists for positions are subject to a criminal background check applicable to the department or position.
Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business.
Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record.
Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

Aviation Department The following list is not all inclusive but are TSA general factors for disqualification of employment for working at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
Other factors will be assessed that may also lead to disqualification.

Public Works Department Candidates who receive a conditional offer of employment must be fingerprint ed and will have their fingerprint s used to check the Criminal History Records of the State of Arizona Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Any records returned will be reviewed to determine the candidate's suitability for the job.
Street Transportation Department This position requires the ability to obtain a minimum of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) permit before start date.
Water Services Department Participating in a standby rotation to support the 24-hour operation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus: Preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
Lighting installation or controls, troubleshooting and repair.
Providing seamless services with direct customer contact.
Using aerial equipment at heights of 100 feet.
Reading blueprints, schematics, and one lines.
Reviewing plans, making recommendations, and working with contractors and /or service partners.
Industrial/commercial electrical work.
Aviation Department Experience with: NFPA70E requirements.
Electrical facilities maintenance.
Motor and lighting controls.
Electrical preventative maintenance programs.
Installing various conduits up to 4-inch rigid.
Medium voltage (maintenance, installation, equipment, and substations).
Operating various electrical test equipment such as multimeters, amp probes, meggers, etc.
Installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of medium voltage (12.47kv, 13.8kv) feeder systems and substations.
Journey-level experience in: Airfield lighting, series circuits for runway/taxiway lighting.
Medium - high voltage circuits and splicing up to 12,000 volts.
Phoenix Convention Center

Experience with: NFPA-70 and NFPA-70E requirements.
Medium voltage experience (maintenance, installation, equipment, and substations).
Installing or working with S.E.S., transformer, or generator equipment.
Lighting maintenance; ballast, lamps, relays, and computer operation.
The installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment up to 480V.
Public Works Department Installing or working with S.A.E.S, transformer, or generator equipment.
Working with electrical installations underground.
Technical Training, documentation/certifications (OSHA, safety).
Street Transportation Department

Experience with: NFPA-70 and NFPA-70E requirements.
Safety equipment and procedures, to include PPE, Lock Out Tag Out, OSHA, or CPR training.
The use of heavy construction equipment to include cranes, backhoes and bucket trucks, or other heavy construction equipment.
Water Services Department

Experience with: Industrial process control and industrial motor control.
Installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems and equipment up to 480V.
Installation, repair, operation, and maintenance of medium voltage (12.47kv, 13.8kv) feeder systems and substations.
Installing or working with S.E.S., transformer, or generator equipment.
Lighting maintenance - ballast, lamps, relays, and computer operation.
Medium voltage installation, service, or maintenance.
The application of NFPA 70E and OSHA requirements.
Troubleshooting, inspecting, analyzing, and repairing electrical systems.
Water production, Large Wellfield or Wastewater Treatment Plants.
Working in large industrial environments, motors, VFD's etc.
