The Group Leader/Auxiliary Leader assists the Supervisor in the day-to-day operation of the department. This includes planning, organizing, coordinating, and leading throughout the workday. The appointee works closely with all team members facilitating the Supervisor's leadership. The appointee will also take on a supervisory role when the department supervisor is on vacation or not otherwise present on the job. The appointee must be available for call-in, overtime, and on-call duty. The appointee will also take on special tasks or projects at the direction of the Supervisor.
This position is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, and DDC equipment on campus. Must be available for overtime and on-call situations. Ability to lift 50+ pounds. This position has been evaluated for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to premium pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a payroll week.
Salary: $26.45/hour
Responsibilities: Help disseminate Supervisor's directions to all members of the team.Assist Supervisor in day-to-day activities as needed.Provide continuity of leadership during Supervisor's absence.Help Supervisor maintain job quality in the field and report issues and problems to the Supervisor.Maintain inventory control and distribution to team members.Take on a lead role for special events or projects.Fill in for any employee not able to come to work or on vacation.Help out any team member as needed for large or complex tasks.Be on call and available in case of an urgent problem or issue.Ensure safety protocols are being followed in the field and report any deficiencies to the Supervisor.Assist with the management of any Subcontractor in the field.Train new employees and existing employees in the field.In addition to the "Leader" Responsibilities, the incumbent will:
Maintain all equipment in good working order.Monitor, operate and troubleshoot campus-wide energy management systems.Replace and rewire energy management system devices.Operate and maintain stand-alone boilers both steam and hot water.Repair and replace various HVAC systems.Do both minor and major plumbing repairs and installations.Wire motors, motor starters, relays, contactors, and other electrical devices.Troubleshoot, repair, and replace electrical devices, such as bulbs, ballasts, wiring, switches, outlets, and breakers; install new lighting.Read and understand building blueprints for mechanical systems, plumbing, and electrical layout.Read and understand electrical schematics.Test and troubleshoot electronic, computerized fire alarm devices.Test emergency electrical generators.Analyze and handle any emergency or maintenance problems that occur.Supervise student workers.Maintain a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.Requirements: Formal Education: Technical degree preferred, or equivalent experience in steam boilers, electrical, hot water, and steam heating and air conditioning systems.Experience: Three years of experience in the operation and maintenance of low-pressure boilers, electric, air conditioning, ventilation, and plumbing.Additional Knowledge/Skills: Ability to run and understand various types of equipment, including, but not limited to, welders, torches, pipe-threaders, drills, grinders, man-lifts, forklifts, multi-purpose meters, and computers. Must have a working knowledge of applicable regulatory codes (fire, electrical, boiler, etc.). Must be able to read electrical and mechanical blueprints. Must be able to be trained in confined spaces, lockout-tag out, fall protection, bloodborne pathogens, hazardous waste, and forklift, respirator use.Essential Functions: With or without reasonable accommodations, the incumbent must be able to read and write and speak the English language at a college level, be capable of performing sometimes complex mathematical calculations, statistical calculations, and other higher mathematical operations, must be able to communicate with all levels of the institution in written and spoken form. The individual must be able to work independently. The ability to maintain regular and prompt attendance is essential to the successful performance of this position. Other essential functions may be required.Physical Environment: Personal Protective Equipment must be worn when required. A respiratory function test and the ability to use respirators may be required. Stairs and uneven surfaces may be present; Artificial lifts, etc. may or may not be available. The position may require the incumbent to walk outdoors in all types of weather to other buildings or offices located on the campus. The Campus is located in an area that contains numerous hills and slopes and may not always be fully accessible for mobility-impaired individuals.
