Berkeley Lab's Engineering Division is seeking an Electronics Engineering Associate to support the Advanced Light Source (ALS) Electrical Engineering Group. This role involves resolving moderately complex technical issues, collaborating with scientists and engineers, and providing expertise on ALS Beamlines and Storage Ring systems. Responsibilities include electronic design, documentation, procurement, fabrication/installation guidance, and testing of ALS-U and ALS electrical systems. The position requires applying technical skills, scientific principles, and project management within defined procedures to deliver effective solutions.
What You Will Do: Apply technical expertise to design and implement experimental equipment and systems, analyzing data, conducting tests, and selecting reliable components based on specifications.Collaborate on specifying electrical infrastructure, including AC loads, wiring, and control cabling, ensuring compliance with NEC and LBNL standards.Research, specify, and purchase electronic equipment racks and components, ensuring compliance with NEC, NRTL, seismic, and LBNL regulations.Maintain documentation for ALS-U electrical systems, including design proposals, specifications, schematics, and installation instructions, using approved CAD tools and adhering to ALS-U and LBNL standards.Manage procurement for ALS-U projects, reviewing designs, inspecting products, and ensuring UL compliance.Contribute to cost and schedule management for ALS-U electronics projects, utilizing project management tools.Provide technical expertise to resolve moderately diverse problems and guide technical personnel.Maintain clear communication with project personnel, including logbooks, online repositories, and meeting coordination.Develop detailed electrical diagrams (wiring, network, chassis) in AutoCAD Electrical; manage Bill of Materials and inventory; improve documentation processes.Coordinate fabrication and installation of ALS-U hardware, ensuring adherence to design specifications and quality standards.Develop and execute verification plans, oversee testing to ensure system compliance, and recommend design improvements.Contribute to establishing electrical design guidelines, maintain knowledge of NEC, NFPA 79, UL 508A, and ALS soldering/build standards.Additional Responsibilities as Needed: May supervise the activities of exempt and non-exempt personnel in coordination of a project.Support non-ALS-U (ALS) projects as required.What is Required: Knowledge equivalent to Electronics or Electrical Bachelor's Degree with functional specialty closely aligned with relevant programs and extensive related professional technical experience.Relevant technical certifications.Experience with accelerator and beamline electronic systems, or equivalent industrial experience.Solid foundation in CAD design techniques, design rules and specifications; AutoCAD or OrCAD experience.Proven ability to manage technical projects from start to finish using project management principles.Strong foundation in circuit/system design, testing, and troubleshooting.Effective at interacting with scientists and engineers to define and achieve project goals.Collaborative with engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.Skilled in writing clear technical reports, manuals, and documentation.Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA-70, and NFPA-70E standards.The expected salary range of this position is between $93,000.00- $115,000.00 annually, which falls into the full salary range of $82,728.00 - $139,644.00 annually. The final salary depends upon the candidate's skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and years of experience.
Notes: This is a full-time career appointment, exempt (monthly paid) from overtime pay.This position may be subject to a background check.
