POSITION SUMMARY
Serves as a specialist for students who have recently arrrived and are learning English as a second language and/or developing the necessary academic English to be successful in core content classes. The Elementary Newcomer Specialist works in a program designed to provide direct English Language Development instruction in the classroom, small groups and/or individual student settings. In addition to this specific individualized instruction, the Specialist will assist classroom teachers and specialists with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Learners. The Specialist creates a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and reach their full academic potential.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
(Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's Degree.
Valid TSPC ESOL endorsement, or ability to obtain prior to position start date.
Have standards of moral character as required of all Oregon licensed educators (OAR ******** ).
Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree in Teaching.
3 years of experience teaching English Language in a public school setting.

190-day contract
