Under general supervision of the Exec.
Director of Accreditation, Licensure & Regulatory Affairs, Environmental Safety & Emergency Management, the Emergency Management Coordinator will spend time collaborating with other departmental leaders and team to implement organization-wide emergency preparedness activities.
The coordinator spends some of their time devoted to daily emergency program activities such as contributing to emergency P&P updates, supply inventory and management, attending DC Health and Emergency Coalition Meetings, inputting data for Children's National into citywide and federal databases.
The incumbent also collaborates with the Emergency Preparedness Manager, to develop the annual cornerstone curriculum, designing survey tools, decontamination curriculum & training materials and while maintain the decon inventory.
The coordinator will participate in internal departments and external agencies to produce efficient and effective emergency plans, policies and procedures and conducts training exercises to test and implement improvements.
This position is also collaboration with other team members consults with clinical staff regarding emergency preparedness and mitigation issues.
Participate in the development of emergency management objectives that align with the organization's objectives and regular evaluation of them.
Maintain current knowledge of applicable regulations including the Joint Commission, FEMS, FEMA, NIMS and other emergency management regulations.
Establish and maintain relationships with the community including other healthcare/pre-hospital agencies and local, state, and federal agencies.
Effectively coordinate with Stakeholders to ensure emergency preparedness and management activities through the DC Emergency Healthcare Coalition.

Qualifications: Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree Emergency Management, Public Health other Healthcare field required.

Minimum Work Experience
2 years Developing scenarios for table top exercises and drills, including moulaging for real life simulations for healthcare based emergency response.
(Required)
1 year Experience working with hazardous material PPE and proper maintenance; CBRNE Preparation, Mitigation and Response Training and Education.
Management of CBRNE, DECON and RAD inventory such as Geiger Counters, PAPRs, Respirators and PRDs.

3 years Pre-hospital clinical experience working as an EMT-B or EMT-P and responding to clinical codes.
Maintenance of current certification in BLS, PALS (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Must be qualified to train personnel to the OSHA Best Practices for Hospital-Based First Receivers operations emergency responses
Expert knowledge of Joint Commission EC and EM Standards, FEMA CBRNE Response guidance, Active Shooter Mitigation and Response
Proficient computer skills in order to utilize equipment and systems (PC software applications, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
HHS & NDMS Data Entry protocols.
Analytical skills necessary to resolve complex and high intensity emergency situations and implement appropriate systems processes in a timely manner for leadership to make adequate decisions.
Work with Radiation Safety and Security as well as Emergency Preparedness leaders to conduct hospital-wide trainings at physical sites throughout the system.
Collaborate with Emergency Preparedness Manager and Env.
Safety Coordinator to conduct risk assessments to decrease and eliminate emergencies in public spaces such as garages, parking lots, etc.
Train ongoing departmental interns on departmental protocols, activities and processes as indicated.

Functional Accountabilities Service/Safety Program Disseminate safety-related information to department heads and others as needed. Assist department departmental leaders and administration in prioritizing emergency related activities Assist with the development of new emergency preparedness programs such as CODE EARS. Present in-service and orientation classes & develop curriculum upon request. Provide decon training, develop evaluation tools and assess effectiveness of training through drills. Database Management Develop and maintain databases for vaccinations, drills, trainings, COVID 19, Flu, as requested. Maintain inventory of disaster and Emergency Management supplies. Track preventive maintenance of department equipment to maintain a state of readiness. Build survey monkeys and red cap surveys, as indicated Complex Duties Develop decon training for review by HR Training Manager, Exec.
Dir of Emergency Management and Medical Director of Emergency Department Perform Hazard Surveillance & Emergency Drill assessments and main campus and extended campus locations Assist with special projects such as abstract development, submissions for clinical and operational journals Organize emergency storage supplies, mattresses, PAPRs, Respirator Filters and batteries Safety Speak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance Meetings Represent the department at various organization wide meetings and present to groups, upon request. Represent Children's National at regional emergency related work groups, team meetings, planning sessions to ensure pediatric needs are properly integrated in overall operational plans. Summarizes the outcomes of regional and other meetings for departmental and other hospital leadership. Attend federal and local trainings to glean new information to integrate into Children's preparedness activities. Write & submit Decon Newsletter to Director prior to dissemination to hospital staff. Write After Action Reports to summarize the outcome of drills and emergency events. Answer and respond to incoming telephone calls, take and distribute messages.
