Position Overview: The Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) will provide professional nursing care for adult and pediatric patients within the Emergency Medicine Departments of the Navajo Area Indian Health Service (NAIHS). The RN will play a critical role in supporting healthcare delivery for a diverse population, adhering to federal and clinical standards while managing the unique challenges of serving rural and tribal communities.
Key Responsibilities: Nursing Duties: Perform nursing duties to manage patients' needs as described in the Performance Description (PD) and under supervision of NNMC's Nursing Supervisor.
Administer patient care in accordance with written competency standards including:
a. Confidentiality/HIPAA/Patient's Rights
b. EMTALA Compliance Exam
c. Age-Specific Competency Verification
d. RN Medication Administration Competency Examination and Verification
e. Intravenous Therapy and Venipuncture Procedure Skills
f. Pain Management Competency Verification
g. Restraint Application and Competency
Competency and Orientation Standards: -Complete orientation programs including Contract Nurse Competency Verifications and Health Stream Checklists.
-Manage Emergency Codes and adhere to EMTALA regulations.
-Provide medication administration, pain management, and charting as required.
-Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific competencies and Navajo culture awareness.
-Maintain high standards of nursing practice and comply with patient restraint protocols.
Additional Responsibilities: -Participate in charge nurse duties as assigned.
-Collaborate with medical teams to deliver inpatient and outpatient care efficiently.
-Perform emergency interventions with efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications and Requirements: Experience: -Minimum 36 months (3 years) of nursing experience.
-At least 2 years in a specialty relevant to emergency nursing.
License/Registration: -Valid, unrestricted nursing license in any U.S. state, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or U.S. Territory.
-Valid state driver's license if required for the position.
Certifications: -Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (mandatory).
Additional certifications based on role requirements:
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Newborn Life Support (NLS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Advanced Trauma Care Nurse (ATCN) or Trauma Nurse Critical Care (TNCC) Competencies and Training: -Completion of written competency standards, including HIPAA, EMTALA, and medication administration.
-Strong knowledge of legal and ethical concerns in healthcare.
