Summary:
The Employee Health and Infection Control Nurse provides clinical support and resources in support of PCHC's pre-employment, employee health needs and infection prevention and control services. She/he administers immunizations against infectious diseases and follows up on any adverse reactions. She/he is responsible for all functions of the employee health program and for providing clinical employee health services. In this capacity, this position is responsible for the review and validation of all pre-employment health requirements, annual N95/TB/ Influenza testing and/or vaccinations, and the management of potential blood exposures, employee illnesses and disease outbreaks.
Responsibilities:
•Functions in a clinical capacity for the promotion and application of infection control measures to prevent and/or control infections among employees and patients.
•Identifies risk or potential risk of communicable disease or spread of infection and takes appropriate action as needed.
•Investigates infection control problems and arranges for follow-up care for persons exposed to infection or disease.
•Collaborates with local/state agencies as needed.
•Assists with the preparation of monthly reports regarding the prevention and/or treatment of health-care acquired infections.
•Communicates information and ensures proper infection control measures are in place.
•Maintains records of work related incidents and tracks and reports on all employee incidents related to work related injuries and blood/body fluid exposures.
•Reports communicable disease information to local and state agencies as directed in a timely manner.
•Responds according to infection control policy and protocol when a patient or employee is diagnosed as having a communicable disease.
Education and Qualifications:
•Current Rhode Island R.N. license. Bachelors of Nursing degree preferred
•Minimum of two years' experience working with infection control methods
•Minimum of two years' experience working in an occupational health or employee health setting
•Infection Control Certification preferred with the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC)
•Preferred certification in occupational health nursing
•Experience in data analysis and providing education and presentations
•Experience with policy and procedure development
•Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with employees, medical staff and regulatory bodies
•Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point
