JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Employment Specialist DEPARTMENT: Employment Services FLSA: Non- Exempt REPORTS TO: Shelter Director and Employment Coordinator LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY SALARY: $40,000 to $50,000 per year
SUMMARY: Under supervision of the Casework Supervisor, assists participants in securing permanent employment opportunities through individual employment case management and facilitation of job search and job readiness training. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Identifies, outreaches, and recruits eligible program participants. ? Develops Individual Employment Plans for all program participants. ? Provides intensive employment case management for each participant. ? Works with each participant on the development of a resume and other documents required for employment. Also helps in securing interview clothing and reliable transportation. ? Plans, develops and facilitates pre-requisite training on job search and job readiness techniques to prepare participants for transition into employment. ? Collects, organizes, and analyzes information about program participants through records, tests, interviews, and professional sources for vocational and career planning. ? Provides linkages to appropriate adult basic education and occupational skills training as needed. ? Works with each participant to develop a written plan to deal with emergencies that might become a barrier to employment. ? Serve a liaison to Job Development to enhance services based on the needs of the labor market. ? Provides ongoing encouragement, motivation and support. ? Actively participates in staff and other meetings as required. ? Other duties as assigned. EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Associate's Degree and two years' experience in casework, or employment and training programs. Ability to communicate effectively with people of all socioeconomic and situational backgrounds; ability to identify participant needs and appropriate support services; ability to motivate program participants; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and ability to organize and prioritize work to be performed. Must have computer skills in word and excel. Must be available for evening and weekend work.
