EMT BLS Supervisor Job Description Organization: LifeCare Ambulance Location: New England (Massachusetts & New Hampshire) Position Summary: The EMT BLS Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Basic Life Support (BLS) team. This role involves coordinating staffing, ensuring adherence to protocols, and maintaining a high standard of patient care. ## Key Responsibilities: **Operational Oversight:** - Supervise and coordinate BLS ambulance operations across assigned areas in Massachusetts and New Hampshire - Ensure compliance with state and local EMS protocols, policies, and procedures - Monitor response times, on-scene time, and in-hospital time of EMS vehicles - Make decisions regarding vehicle and equipment maintenance, including when to remove units from service **Personnel Management:** - Provide clinical supervision and mentoring to EMTs - Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions as needed - Oversee training programs for new employees and continuing education for existing staff - Manage scheduling and staffing to ensure adequate coverage **Quality Assurance:** - Review patient care reports, check-out forms, and other documentation for accuracy and completeness - Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives - Ensure adherence to infection control protocols and safety standards - Safety Officer duties **Emergency Response:** - Respond to emergency calls as needed, providing BLS care and scene management - Assume operational responsibility at emergency scenes until relieved by higher-ranking personnel - Coordinate with other emergency services such as fire departments and law enforcement **Administrative Duties:** - Assist in developing and updating EMS policies, procedures, and protocols - Represent the department at local and regional meetings - Contribute to budget planning and resource allocation - Maintain records on certification requirements for all personnel ## Qualifications: - Current Massachusetts and New Hampshire EMT certification - Valid driver's license with clean driving record - Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an EMT with supervisory experience preferred - Advanced knowledge of BLS protocols and procedures - Strong leadership and communication skills - Proficiency in EMS documentation and reporting systems ## Additional Requirements: - BLS for Healthcare Providers certification - EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operator Course) certification - ICS-100, -200, -700, and -800 certifications (or ability to complete within first year)] - Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays - Physical ability to perform all essential EMT duties - Safety Officer The EMT BLS Supervisor plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient operations, maintaining high standards of patient care, and fostering a positive work environment for EMS personnel in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
