Endowment And Fund Accountant

Calculates endowment spending for 1,500+ endowed funds and supports the operating budget process by providing information on new gifts, current restricted funds, endowment funds, and plant funds.
Ensures that current restricted funds, plant funds, and endowed funds are spent in accordance with their restrictions and maintains all restricted funds spending records.
Supports budget managers in their use of restricted and operating funds.
Meets with budget managers on a periodic basis to thoroughly review overall budget, with a focus on restricted funding, resolving any questions or concerns, and ensuring the budget manager has an accurate and detailed understanding of the restricted funds, as well as, the Academy's internal processes and controls related to new and existing gifts, funds and their overall usage.
Participates in the budget and projection processes.
Coordinates timely processing of inter-fund cash transfers.
Calculates and records the market value per unit of the endowment, reports to outside organizations as needed.
Ensures timely and accurate preparation of all audit schedules: current restricted funds, endowment, split interest, plant funds, gift revenue and net assets, including related footnotes for annual audit.
Ensures all journal entries related to endowment spend and releases from restrictions are accurately prepared and posted.
Includes preparing fund roll forwards and reconciliation to Statement of Activities and Balance Sheet for Financial Statement preparation.
Records and maintains all records related to the Voluntary Employee Benefits Program (VEBA).
Responsible for Split Interest Agreement document processing and accounting to include valuations for audit period, communicates to outside organizations as needed.
Responsible for Annuity Recording and Payment Processing.
Responsible for Private Letter Ruling Recording and Payment Processing.
Reviews tax returns for Private Letter Rulings and Net-Income Charitable Remainder Unitrusts prepared by outside organizations, confirming accuracy and completeness.
Maintains a schedule of activity and settle up of transactions involving the due to/from accounts.
Works with the Stewardship Office on all potential and/or new funds, as well as, changes to existing funds to ensure appropriate recording of restrictions.
Responsible for creating new funds or updating existing funds in the Academy-wide ERP, as well as, storage and retention of documentation.
Guaranteeing the language contained within a new/amended document (Deed, Statement of Understanding, etc.)
is in-line with the best practices and standard language as defined by the Academy.
Produces reports on annual giving and major gifts, and meets with directors and officers on a periodic basis to review status and resolve operational issues related to complex gifts.
Facilitates process of reconciling fundraising reports to general ledger data.
Provides information on endowment funds and current restricted funds for Major Gift Officers, Stewardship, and other users.
Prepares various reports and calculations, performs analysis, and articulates professional opinion on endowment funds and current restricted funds on a routine basis, as well as, upon request for Major Gift Officers, Stewardship, Controller/CFO, budget managers, and other users.
Responsible for transmitting all gifts to the endowment ledger, ensuring sufficient documentation is obtained regarding any restriction or donor intent, as well as, serving as the key contact to the Gift Recording office.
Performs budget to actual financial analysis.
Prepares and maintains budget fund reports.
Researches and interprets fund budget variances, including outreach to managers across campus and data review.
Prepares various reconciliations related to endowed funds, current restricted funds, plant funds and gift revenue.
Performs ad hoc projects and builds analytical reports as necessary.
Reviews balances sheet reconciliations and analysis as requested.
Responsible for calculating and providing amounts related to the Academy's restricted funds, split interest and gift revenue to be reported on various surveys the Academy participates in.
Provide amounts for the endowment, split interest, and current restricted funds that are reported on the Academy's annual tax return.
Responsible for implementation and maintenance of new or existing endowment manager systems and software, updates information within the system/software as necessary and familiar with how the systems and software operate.
Responsible for fully understanding the most current processes and internal controls related to the Financial and Accounting operations and procedures of the Academy.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements EducationBachelor's degree in Accounting required.
Experience3 - 10 years' accounting experience preferred, with significant experience with an integrated accounting system.
Experience working in an educational or non-profit setting preferred.
Experience in an institutional or campus setting Additional Requirements Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years).
Clean Driving record (reviewed annually)
