The Electronics Development Lab (EDL) is seeking a Systems Engineer to promote the Continuous Improvement (CI) capability of the lab through optimization of manufacturing capabilities, refinement of the workforce training, and evaluation of productivity to maintain a competitive advantage. The EDL is comprised of three business units: Payload (Weapons) production, Ship Control certifications and Special projects. The candidate shall possess a background with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies to drive improvement initiatives, implementing Advanced Manufacturing Technology, and fostering the CI culture through employee engagement. The Industrial Engineer will work directly with EDL supervision and staff to assist in all aspects of the construction process from early manufacturing and assembly, to the shipout of components/modules.
The candidate will be responsible to investigate, analyze and facilitate process change to reduce costs and lead times within the EDL manufacturing areas. The candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. The candidate must be capable to accomplish challenging tasks, and work with EDL staff to guide change.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Assist EDL business units in identifying, planning, and implementing Process Improvements and Lean Six Sigma Projects and ensure they align with company objectives Lead teams on projects to improve safety and quality, reduce cost, and improve schedule performance; Identify opportunities to implement advanced manufacturing technology, techniques and equipment Fostering a culture of continuous improvement in the organization Provide coaching to employees when leading change Identify and guide the staff to successful attainment of company's improvement goals Required: Bachelors of Science Degree or higher in Engineering Minimum of 4 years' experience in operations, quality, design, engineering, or planning Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the department of defense Internal candidates must be from organizations outside of Operations (Casciano/Gabriel) Preferred: Degree in Industrial Engineering Prior Industrial Engineering experience Project management certification or experience Microsoft Access proficiency Experience with Value Stream Mapping and Analysis Experience with Lean, Kaizen, or Toyota Production Systems Experience with process mapping and/or time study analysis Understanding of basic probability and statistics Knowledgeable in developing, utilizing, implementing, and teaching Continuous Improvement tools, including A3 problem solving, 5S, Kanbans, and/or Visual Management Excellent project management skills, with experience in scoping, planning, executing, and transitioning project ownership to customers Lean Manufacturing and/or Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training Motivated, performance driven individual with strong leadership skills Be able to communicate verbally and in writing to all levels of management Experience and ability to lead and facilitate teams, and support other team member's success Good presentation and oral/written communication skills Ability to multitask.
