Position Overview:

Position leads and manages the engineering team assigned to specific product lines.
Oversees and provides guidance for engineering, design, and documentation of new products and development of existing products.
Effectively communicates progress and results for design and development work to the appropriate teams.
Reviews all documentation to ensure compliance and good documentation practices are upheld.


Duties:

* Exercise initiative/judgement in work requirement.


* Ability to lead by example and communicate with clarity while demonstrating excellence in approach to work and people activities.


* Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.


* Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap, and re-work.


* Ability to effectively communicate/document results and present to entire team.


* Develop detailed plans for new designs, products, and improvements.


* Make determinations for equipment, staff, and training needs.


* Propose project and program budgets.


* Hire and supervise staff of engineers, designers, and drafters.


* Support research and development projects that produce new designs, products, and processes as needed.


* Check the team's work product for technical accuracy.


* Ensure the validity of methods used by staff.


* Coordinate work with other managers and staff.


* Immediately report any product or system quality deficiencies to the appropriate teams.


* Provide guidance for engineering staff.


* Work with the engineering teams for all product lines to improve processes, accuracy, and results that are beneficial to the entire engineering team.


* Monitor and review engineering CapEx and Expense budgets with Finance.


* Assist in evaluation of returned material to identify failure mode and root cause of failure.


* Provide support and input to continuous improvement activities within the organization.


* Office and manufacturing non-climate-controlled environment.


* Willing to travel for work.

Requirements

5+ years of professional experience in Engineering and 4+ years of experience in a lead or management role.


Work Experience:

* Product design, development, or manufacturing work environment desired.


* Experience with electrical and mechanical devices and systems.


* Experience with FDA Medical Device Design Control requirements.


* Bachelor's Degree (B.S.)
in Mechanical Engineering required from an accredited ABET college or equivalent.


* Master's degree in engineering or MBA a plus.


* Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.


* Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel.
Effectively communicate instructions while leading the team to meet their goals.


* Detail-oriented for understanding complex systems and the ability to pay attention to details, as a minor error can result in major problems.


* Math skill, including calculous and other advanced mathematics for developing new processes and products.


* Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees, and schedules simultaneously.


* Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) and SolidWorks platforms.
