The Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for designing, creating, and managing Jazz's enterprise data architecture and data architecture standards. This role is critical in establishing a solid foundation for enterprise data at Jazz and ensuring that data is organized securely and consistently to enable interconnectivity across functional data assets. The data architect will be responsible for setting standards around data modeling, data integration and data engineering best practices and data security design. This is a highly collaborative role where the architect will partner with the enterprise architecture function to deliver the optimal data solutions for Jazz. As the Enterprise Data Architect you will be a key member of the team driving data driven thinking at Jazz and unlocking the value of enterprise data.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities Defines high level data architecture strategy, creating guidelines for data architecture including acquisition, staging, storage, archival / retention, redundancy and master dataSimplifies the existing data architecture across the enterprise, delivering reusable services and cost-saving opportunities in line with the policies and standards of the companyDesigns or oversees the design of the structure and security for data systems across Jazz, including database layers, data fabric, data warehouses, and lakesEstablishes data access controls and security measuresTranslates high-level business requirements into data models and appropriate metadata, test data, and data quality standardsLeads design review and quality assurance of project data architecture artifactsDefines and manages standards, guidelines, and processes to ensure the highest levels of data quality and data securityLeads team in ensuring best practice data architecture across the enterprise including functionally specific project needsEvaluates and recommends emerging technologies for data management, storage, and analyticsLeads initiatives related to progressing Jazz's data architecture in support of data science and artificial intelligence initiativesDesigns master data elements with a focus on interoperability across data assets to deliver transformative insightsEnsures development and maintenance activities are in line with the enterprise architectureCollaborates with the Enterprise Data Management team to maintain repositories for representing the data elements including the entities, relationships and attributes, the information flows, and business glossaryCollaborates with Enterprise Data Strategy team peers including Governance Lead, Lead Data Scientist and Enterprise Data Platforms as well as Information Services Peers including but not limited to IS Strategic Partners, Information Security and the Enterprise ArchitectEncourages a data citizenship mindset, ensuring we all collectively take responsibility and accountability for the data we create, consume, manage and shareSummarizes and communicates the concepts of enterprise data and data architecture to stakeholders with various levels of comprehensionRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 10+ of relevant experience in design and implementation of data models for enterprise data warehouse, data lake and data science initiativesExperience leading projects involving data warehousing, data modeling, and data securityDesign experience in AWS Redshift, Informatica PowerCenter and Power BI/TableauExperience leading a team of architects and engineers both as employees and consultantsExperience working in highly collaborative cross-functional teams and delivering solutions through both waterfall and agile project deliveryPrior experience working in a highly regulated industry required, experience in pharmaceuticals, biotech industry or consulting preferredProficient in one or more programming languages such as Python, R, or SQLProficiency in the design and implementation of modern data architectures and concepts such as cloud services (AWS) and modern data warehouse tools (Snowflake, Databricks)Experience with data engineering tools such as Informatica PowerCenter / IICS and data modeling toolsUnderstanding of entity-relationship modeling, metadata systems, and data quality tools and techniquesAble to think strategically and relate architectural decisions and recommendations to business needsAble to assess traditional and modern data architecture components and overall solution design based on business needsExperience with business intelligence tools and technologies such as Power BI, and TableauPassionate about promoting a data driven culture while operating with the highest integrity and ensuring responsible and ethical data usageHas a 'service' mentality, recognizing and promoting the enabling value that data can provide to the businessAble to regularly learn and adopt new technology, especially in the ML/AI realmStrong analytical and problem-solving skills with a positive 'can do' approach to solutioningStrong communication skills with the ability to synthesize and clearly communicate large volumes of complex information to senior managementStrong collaborator in complex, cross-functional teams involving data scientists, business analysts, and stakeholdersCommitted to forming trusting, collaborative and strategic partnerships with internal stakeholders and develop pragmatic, innovative approaches to meet complex data needs and maximize business valueRequired/Preferred Education and Licenses A bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, or related field
