Job DescriptionEnvironmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability Site LeaderLocation: Pleasanton, CAPosition Objective Lead Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability at Thermo Fisher Scientific's Pleasanton, California campus. The site consists of 80 acres, multiple buildings and includes manufacturing, R&D, distribution, and office operations with a total of ~800 colleagues. This position supports the global EHS strategy through a program that seeks to proactively lead EHS & Sustainability in order to comply with all applicable regulations and Thermo Fisher Scientific standards, to achieve a safe work environment and minimize the impact to the environment.Essential FunctionsProvide leadership and oversight of EHS and Sustainability programs in a fast paced, cross functional and highly collaborative environment.Develop and implement strategy to systematically control and reduce site safety hazards and environmental impact (energy, non-hazardous and hazardous waste, air, water, land).Clearly understand and lead regulatory compliance for a large and complex site with multiple agency permits in highly regulated geographic region.Provide incident command during site emergencies.Apply continuous improvement tools (Kaizen, Gemba, 5 Whys, VSM, Poka Yoke, etc.) to drive progress of EHS and Sustainabilitiy programs. Engage site functions and prioritize initiatives and resources to increase effectiveness.Reinforce and sustain a safety first culture through involvement and innovation with site leadership and operational teams.Manage collection of key performance metrics and perform analysis to drive EHS strategy and practical process improvement.Implement all elements of Thermo Fisher Scientific global EHS management system to develop and improve EHS programs and processes to meet the changing needs of the business.Provide technical expertise and guidance to solve site EHS related hazards (chemical, biological, physical, radioactive etc.).Collaborate with internal Global EHS functions and regulatory agencies on EHS matters to maintain a strong collaborative environment that works to partner on compliance and best practice implementation.Direct and manage internal and external resources to achieve site and global objectives.Manage site EHS budget and find opportunities and actions for savings.Perform leadership role in site audits for compliance with company EHS and regulatory standards.Education:Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, environmental science, or engineering field. Master's degree in biological sciences, environmental science, engineering field, or business a plus. Professional certifications such as GMP, CSP, CIH strongly desired.Experience/Requirements:Requires minimum of 6 years of experience in an environmental, health, and safety, or a leadership position in a related field. Minimum of 3 years staff management experience required.Ability to build trust and confidence with collaborators and influence change.Effective communicator that can deliver clear, concise and consistent messages, both orally and in writing to all levels of colleagues and non-colleagues.Proficiency with computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, data trending and charting, and slide presentations required.Technical and practical knowledge of biotechnology manufacturing operations, research and development and/or manufacturing is highly recommended, or a willingness to quickly become proficient is required.Must have thorough knowledge of federal and local EHS regulations, including OSHA, Cal-OSHA, EPA, and GMP, or be willing to take steps to gain required knowledge within agreed-to timing.Desired Profile:Motivated & results oriented.Able to collaboratively identify and drive solutions in highly matrixed organization.Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability handling competing priorities.Ability to create a strategic plan using data to set objectives then deliver results.Proficient in inspiring and coaching experienced team members while willing to roll-up own sleeves to contribute.Experienced in using lean problem-solving tools (Kaizen, Six Sigma, PPI etc.).Excellent written and oral communications skills.Greets challenge and change as opportunity.Courageous and confident to take reasonable risks and learn from mistakes.Working Conditions:Many duties are performed while sitting at a desk or conference room, (e.g., operating acomputer, using a telephone, or writing and analyzing data and/or reports, attending meetings). Duties also include walking or standing for periods of time within the office areas, labs, manufacturing, distribution, during inspections, drills, participating in agency inspections, audits, supporting incident command system during emergency response activities.Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in California is $141,800.00–$212,650.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
