We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations related to biological safety, including OSHA standards.
Responsibilities: Ensures all employees at risk for occupational exposure are aware of the inherent risks and have been properly trained to carry out their job responsibilities in a safe manner.Inspect assigned facilities to identify safety, health, environmental and security risks.Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.Monitors compliance with safety procedures and drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.Maintains records of employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.Managing safety or occupational health program elements.Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management.Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements.Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards.Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in environmental safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field, master's degree desirable.At least 3-5 years' experience in environment, health and safety.Biosafety experience and/or Biological Safety Officer experienceExperience with SBN, RegScan, and Access Control SystemsKnowledge of Safety and Health principles including the ability to identify known potential exposures and recommended corrective actions as demonstrated by prior work experience.Possesses good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.Exhibits a working knowledge of OSHA General Industry, and Construction Safety regulations.Ability to develop, implement and evaluate written safety and training programs.Displays knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, and email.Ability to be self-sufficient, research solutions, and make recommendations to management.Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.Must be able to occasionally lift 10-25 pounds.Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and/or any relevant safety certification.
