Facility Kootenai HealthPosition Summary
The Epic Healthcare Informaticist is responsible for workflow analysis and design for the Epic and third-party applications supporting Kootenai Health, our affiliates, and downstream customers. The Healthcare Informaticist works in close collaboration with clinicians, including physicians, departmental leadership, Quality, Patient Safety, Information Systems, Accreditation, and Licensure departments to strategically select a design, implement, and guide the use of technology to ensure optimal care delivery processes and effectively communicate patient care activity. The Epic Healthcare Informaticist collaborates with Analysts, Trainers, and other IT team members on the analysis, design, implementation, optimization, and support of the use of Epic modules and third-party applications. They will participate in new module or new application implementation and upgrades and will act as a liaison between departmental staff and Information Systems staff for all facilities.
Responsibilities Performs in-depth analysis of current and future workflows, data collection, report details, and other technical issues associated with the Epic EHR and designated third-party applications.Collaborates with analysts to collect requirements regarding potential system enhancements or new system implementation and prepares details of specifications needed; prioritizes and implements requested changes to the system.Specializes in patient care processes and clinician workflow.Leads or participates in improvement projects and on assigned committees to provide content expertise on the literature related to the use of EMR and other technology to meet patient safety goals, support clinician workflow, and achieve care improvements.Collaborates with analysts on standardization and process improvement opportunities while making build decisions.Assists analysts with data validation to ensure data is accurate and meets business requirements.Participates in designs and execution of small-scale application testing as requested by analysts.Participates in integrated area domain and affinity groups in support of operational governance.Assists analysts with troubleshooting, identifying root cause, and documenting problems of simple to medium complexity for assigned applications and systems as needed.Develops workflow documentation for a variety of information systems and disciplines.Assists trainers as needed to develop communication related to education efforts for deployments, upgrades, optimizations, and other system changes as assigned.Analyzes workflows and has an understanding of policies, procedures, and constraints in core clinical or business area(s) of responsibility.Partners, in collaboration with the analyst, with quality, operational, and business leaders on system design and optimization to meet quality, safety, financial, and efficiency needs.Other duties, including analyst build in certified or proficient applications, as assigned.Performs other related duties as assigned.Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field.Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function.Competent to meet age-specific needs of the unit assigned.Requirements and Minimum Qualifications Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in related field preferred (BSN, information systems, etc.).State of Idaho Registered Nurse or licensure pending as documented by temporary licensure OR current RN licensure from a state participating in the "multi-state privilege to practice" compact with Idaho required.2 years' experience in a hospital and/or clinic setting preferred.Informatics Certification preferred.Epic certification or accredited in one or more Epic modules as assigned required.Certification to be initiated as directed and completed within 3 months upon completion of Epic training; employee must remain current in certification or proficiency.Other required system application certifications to complete assigned work as assigned.Participates in after hours on-call, on-call rotation, and service recovery efforts as required.Advanced understanding of the standard tools, workflow processes, and/or procedures and concepts used in the development and deployment of application software necessary to run the healthcare systems business, clinical or financial systems.Comprehensive understanding of clinical or business principles to evaluate information system and healthcare regulatory needs.Knowledge of Healthcare information systems.Experience in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Experience working with online project document repositories (i.e., SharePoint).Ability to work independently and simultaneously on multiple priorities.BLS Required.
