Evansville, In Va Health Care Center Is Seeking A Part-Time Orthopedic Surgeon

The Orthopedic Surgeon will diagnose and treat all the common musculoskeletal conditions, including surgical and non-surgical management of diseases and injuries to the musculoskeletal system. The incumbent provides care for Veterans' medical needs by performing examinations, surgical consultations, and developing treatment and follow-up plans. The Orthopedic surgeon will prescribe medications, order diagnostic studies such as lab tests, imaging, electrocardiograms (EKGs), and enter specialty consults as needed. The incumbent physician will provide ongoing patient and family education throughout the course of treatment. Each member of the Surgery Department functions as a cooperative and collegial team member with the entire medical center staff.

The incumbent must adhere to all service/facility workflow processes, procedures, protocols, and policies regarding the completion of all required operation/procedure notes/reports, orders, progress notes, clinical reminders, and all other required medical documentation and performance measures in a timely fashion. The incumbent will ensure the most effective delivery of care while meeting and exceeding compliance, Joint Commission, and VA Central Office performance measure standards.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases. Salary range is based on full-time schedule and will be prorated based on hours worked.
Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory
CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification)
Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided
Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting
Work Schedule: Part-time, 24 hours a week. No call.

Clinical duties will include, but are not limited to: Treat diseases, disorders, and conditions of the musculoskeletal system both medically and surgically.Provide quality patient care to outpatients as assigned.Assess Veterans by utilizing advanced clinical judgment and physical assessment skills.Identify acute, non-acute, or chronic health problems.Use principles of risk management to identify system issues that impact patient care.Order and evaluate appropriate diagnostic tests.Inform patients to accomplish shared decision-making in medical treatment/regimes.Provide appropriate disposition of identified health care problems.Participate in Surgery Service multi-disciplinary activities.Keep informed of developments in the management and treatment of diseases and illness through continuing medical education, both formal and informal.Successfully integrate identified medical needs with other patient care programs at the medical center and in the community.Consistently demonstrate medical expertise in diagnosis and treating multi-symptomatic patients.Adhere to local medical center policies or VHA Directives related to clinical alerts and service level agreements with other specialized services within the medical center.Understand the particular needs of Veterans typically between 18 and 75 years of age, showing sensitivity to their special needs regarding age, developmental requirements, and culturally related factors.Directly supervise staff in clinical situations: Mid-level providers, RNs, LPNs, and on occasion other trainees. No supervisory responsibilities such as disciplinary actions, written performance evaluations, or time and leave approval are expected for this position. Administrative duties will include, but are not limited to: Participate and attend medical center committees assigned by the Chief of Surgery Service or Chief of Staff.Assist in the development and implementation of care programs in Surgery Service.Participate in various facility programs designed to enhance and improve the delivery of patient care services such as Process Action Teams or other Patient Safety or Quality Improvement Assignments.Participate in Surgery Service Peer Reviews when requested. Qualifications: To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine.
