Events/Office Coordinator About Operations Research & Information Engineering The School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) at Cornell is consistently placed among a handful of leading Operations Research programs worldwide. Cornell's program in Operations Research and Information Engineering is a rigorous program with approximately 200 undergraduates, 120 Master of Engineering students, and 60 Ph.D. students. ORIE focuses on fundamental principles and methods but also uses contextual learning and design experiences to integrate the science with engineering. Our educational approach emphasizes a broad mastery of core disciplinary areas including methods of optimization, applied probability modeling and statistical analysis, manufacturing systems design and operation, and systems analysis and methodology.
The Opportunity We are excited to announce an opening for an Events/Office Coordinator at the prestigious School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE). Key Responsibilities include: Event Expert: Be at the helm of crafting unforgettable experiences for school events such as graduations, seminars, faculty retreats, and more. Seamlessly manage everything from travel bookings to venue decorations, ensuring every detail sparks delight. Partner with faculty and staff to not only meet but exceed event expectations, keep spending smart, and wrap up with finesse. Navigate university policies with ease and collaborate with the University Risk Management office to ensure every event is not just fun, but safe. Office Powerhouse: Be the friendly face and expert hand at the front desk, adept at solving problems and juggling administrative tasks with a smile. Lead and mentor our student office team, streamline hiring processes, and keep our office buzzing efficiently. Keep our digital presence fresh by updating our department webpages and engaging audiences on social media. Craft and refine office protocols to boost efficiency and support our administrative leaders with your organizational prowess. Additional Responsibilities: Tackle a broad range of queries with confidence and discretion. Keep our tech and tools in top shape, stepping in to troubleshoot with tech-savvy know-how. Master the art of time and materials management, keeping projects on track and materials ready to roll. Step into critical roles as needed, from overseeing payroll processes to handling purchasing and reimbursements with precision. What We Need All applicants must include a resume and cover letter for full consideration. Associate's degree and 2-4 years' experience with conference and event planning, office management, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. High level of professionalism and customer service experience. Excellent organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple complex projects concurrently. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. Experience that demonstrates sound judgement, creativity, and problem-solving skills. Able to work independently and with little supervision while contributing to the efforts of the larger team. Willingness to perform repetitive tasks such as data entry. Available for occasional evening and weekend events, including Commencement during Memorial Day weekend.
