Job SummaryThis paragraph summarizes the general nature, level and purpose of the job. The Executive Director of Ambulatory Operations will focus on leading the development and implementation of standardized clinical and regulatory workflows across all ambulatory sites. This role will drive strategic initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, and support the achievement of organizational goals.
Provides leadership and strategic planning over Stanford Medicine Children's Health (SMCH) primary market sites. Directs the strategy and implementation of clinical operations across the primary market sites and ensures that administrative and clinical processes are standardized across all the sites, in collaboration with Nursing. Responsibility for overseeing the operations of the clinics including the personnel, quality/regulatory, patient experience, and budgetary management of multiple sites/clinics(s), program(s) and/or project(s) that cross multiple departments and/or services. Partners across the Stanford Medicine enterprise with School of Medicine Chairs/Chiefs, Department/Division leaders, Providers, Nursing leaders, APP leaders, Clinical Services, Site Support Services, Ancillary Departments and the Business Development team to execute Stanford Medicine Children's Health and each Service Line's strategic goals, promote program growth, and deliver cost-effective services in safe and efficient working environments. Key functions of the position include most or all of the following: strategic planning; program planning, including development and implementation; program monitoring and evaluation; budget planning and monitoring; and quality and performance improvement to achieve organizational and service line goals. Will not only represent areas under their direct responsibility but also provide leadership around system-wide initiatives to improve patient care, clinical effectiveness, reduce cost, optimize patient throughput, and patient & employee engagement.

Workflow Implementation and Standardization Develop and implement ambulatory-wide clinical workflows, including critical regulatory and clinical protocols such as suicide screening, depression screening, and more.
Ensure that all ambulatory sites adhere to standardized workflows to promote consistency and compliance. Collaborate with clinical and administrative leaders to identify, design, and roll out new workflows that support organizational goals.
Under the leadership of the VP of Ambulatory Services, consistently assess and improve operational performance across all Ambulatory Services based on anticipated needs in order to develop and/or ensure an exceptional service experience and deliver high-quality services which meet the needs of and benefit the patients, staff and other customers.
Primary Market Sites Effectively provide direction and policy interpretation to direct reports in managing their respective areas of responsibility; offer advice in handling special human resources matters and administrative concerns.
Ensure that operations, quality initiatives, and service delivery are efficiently delivered across the Stanford Medicine Children's Health with a focus on maintaining flow, ensuring patient satisfaction, delivering high-quality outcomes across the continuum of care.
In collaboration with the School of Medicine and each of the clinical chiefs, APP Leadership, and Nursing leadership, create an outpatient delivery system and lead operations to support the physician practice and to support other services that are delivered in the outpatient setting at LPCH.
Manage the practice and coaching of lean daily management (Leader Standard Work and A-3 problem solving).
Develop and implement policies that guide and support the provision of services; ensure that policies and procedures are compatible with the function and goals of LPCH and which meet the external regulatory and statutory requirements.
Develop and effectively ensure the maintenance of appropriate quality improvement programs and key processes that drive efficiency and patient and employee satisfaction.
Manage the operating budget and is responsible for the financial health of Ambulatory. This includes monitoring and reviewing the monthly variance reports and financial statements, capital expenditures, and resource allocations and providing justifications for variances or unusual expenditures.
Develop strong physician relationships/partnerships, by being available and responsive.
Operationalize new clinic and outreach locations in conjunction with the Business Development Department and within the context of LPCH Strategic Plan.
Manage and standardize the front-end operations in order for them to run efficiently and effectively inclusive of standardize/optimize point of service collections to improve cash flow and work queue management, in order to reduce denials.
Responsible for the following performance metrics inclusive but not limited to patient experience, appointment and phone access, space utilization, clinical quality, regulatory and Joint Commission compliance/readiness, and physician, provider and staff engagement and wellness.
Ensure compliance with relevant licensing, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
Drive a culture of proactive, integrated, high-quality care delivery with a focus on continuous improvement through strategy, innovation, and transformation.
Minimum QualificationsAny combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Master's degree in a work-related field/discipline from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Ten (10) years of progressive management experience in hospital administration or clinic administration, authority and responsibility in similar size organizations, with similar scope and complexity of LPCH. Experience in multiple organizations with some exposure working with multi-specialty physician practices. Pediatric preferred.
License/Certification: None required.

Ability to conduct financial analysis, prepare reports, and present at all levels in the organization.
Ability to develop programs, lead process improvement projects, and evaluate work results.
Demonstrated ability to establish business plans and effectively prioritize system resources to deliver on quality care, patient safety, to support the patient experience.
Evaluate current operational and referral trends in partnership with Business Development and Strategy to ensure continuous assessment of market opportunities.
Knowledge of health care labor relations, economics and legislation.
Knowledge of CMS and TJC regulatory requirements.

Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.
Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $177,465.60 to $242,663.20.
