Alumni Relations and Development (ARD) engages alumni (~220k), current students, parents, and friends of the University through intellectual, professional, and social activities on campus, around the world, and online. ARD raises $600 Million annually to support faculty and researchers, practitioners and patients, and students and programs across the University.
The College Development team raises $80M-$100M annually, advancing philanthropic partnerships with key alumni, parents, and friends of the College to support the educational goals of its undergraduates.
Job Summary
As part of the University of Chicago's College Development Team, the Executive Director, College Alumni Philanthropy provides leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for the advancement activities of the College's alumni major and principal gift program.
This position manages multiple related teams of managers and professional staff who execute programs designed to meet fundraising goals for contributed income. Manages relationships with alumni, faculty, administrators, and organizations with potential to make gifts.
Responsibilities Shapes and grows the College's alumni major gifts and principal gifts programs. Develops and manages a personal pipeline of $100K+ solicitations while closing $5M-$10M+ in gifts annually. Travels with and regularly staffs the Dean of the College in her work with high-capacity individual prospects. Manages a team of staff including individual major giving officers. Oversees a leadership annual giving program for the College. Leads the College's reunion fundraising strategy. Oversees the Leadership Engagement Team. Works closely with the regional Executive Directors of the Regional Advancement and Individual Giving Team. Hires, manages, evaluates, develops, and terminates staff as needed. Trains staff in effective relationship management. Monitors and manages an annual budget. Seeks opportunities for professional development. Develops department strategies and plans to achieve fundraising goals. Manages and maintains a portfolio of current and potential donors. Performs other related work as needed. Minimum Qualifications Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.
Work Experience: Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Advanced degree. Minimum 10 years of professional work experience in nonprofit management, development, alumni relations, marketing, public relations, or similar. Minimum five years of soliciting and closing major gifts experience. Minimum four years of management experience. Minimum two years of experience developing and monitoring budgets. Experience working with volunteers. Demonstrated record of organizing successful fundraising programs. Expertise managing a complex prospect and donor pipeline. Working Conditions This position has a hybrid work schedule. Standard office environment. Regular travel to campus and/or non-campus locations. Work evenings and weekends as needed. This position is located in Hyde Park at 5235 South Harper Court.
