I. Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Executive Director position at LilyCare NH Hospice must have at least a bachelor's degree in business or a health-related field, with a minimum of one year's experience in hospice care, or be a registered nurse. This unique role requires a Baccalaureate Degree in administration or a health-related field and at least four years of supervisory or administrative experience in hospice care or a health setting. The Hospice Administrator must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate strong community relations, and have the ability to motivate and work collaboratively with fellow employees and volunteers.
II. Responsibilities
The Executive Director (ED)/Hospice Administrator (HA) will be responsible for the daily operations of the site hospice team and for carrying out the organization's vision, mission, and goals.
The HA works in conjunction with the Governing Body to:
Ensure the financial viability of the site through:
program operational planning
adherence to budgetary constraints
review of expenditures
Ensure program compliance with legal and regulatory requirements by:
identification of variances and subsequent education of staff
providing input to Policies and Procedures and guidelines
implementation and monitoring the effectiveness of P & P's
Evaluate the program services and personnel by:
ensuring evaluations are ongoing and within policy, applying data management to staff utilization, applying data management to program improvement
establishing and maintaining effective communication channels between staff, patients and families, vendors, and other community services
building cooperative relationships with physicians, hospitals, nursing facilities, and other referral services and promoting the business effectively
ensuring adequate and proper staffing
keeping personnel current with state-of-the-art clinical information and practices
ensuring staff development, including orientation, in-service education, continuing education, and stress management
directing and supervising staffing performance of their duties, including admission, discharge, transfer, and provision of services to clients during all service hours
assuring that true interdisciplinary care is provided
assuring that all members of the team receive appropriate support and recognition
coordinating with other sites and management as appropriate to the mission and communication structure
keeping current on local and national issues and trends
reviewing and monitoring staff utilization for comprehensive service and cost-effectiveness
ensuring adequate space, equipment, and supplies are available
maintaining and upholding the Hospice Code of Ethics
working as a team member always
understanding and practicing lines of communication within the system
practicing confidentiality always
maintaining openness to understanding the broader system of the organization and its functioning
engaging in consensus building and alliance formation within the teams
maintaining a positive and honest attitude
identifying limits of own knowledge and skills and seeking appropriate assistance
III. Orientation and Training
Hospice team members will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the Executive Director/Hospice Administrator in performing the responsibilities listed above. The Governing Body and the Management Team will be a resource for the integrated services available within the parent organization. Training may be in-house or outside seminars. Evidence of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.
IV. On Call
The Hospice Administrator will be available, as needed, to ensure that patients have adequate coverage. A qualified individual is appointed in writing to be available in the absence of the ED/HA.
V. Accountability
Reports directly to the Regional Executive Director.
Works cooperatively with the billing coordinator.
Is responsible for all team members within the assigned site.
