Experienced Veterinary Technician

Powder Ridge Veterinary Hospital is a family owned and operated practice that is seeking a dependable and skilled technician.
A strong background in surgery, anesthesia and dentistry is ideal.
The successful candidate must be able to work quickly and accurately under pressure, as well as maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.

Responsibilities:
* Preparation of exam rooms
* Perform physical assessments and record observations legibly in files
* Assist with dosage calculations and dispensing of injectable medications including controlled substances, dosing and administering route protocols and common contraindications
* Communicate patient status, concerns or questions with clients, doctors, other technicians or assistants
* Perform blood collection via all routes and ability to know best collection method based on individual patient needs or specific test requirements; prepare all forms to be sent to outside labs
* Review prescriptions issued by Doctors to assure accuracy; dispense prescribed medications and other pharmaceuticals for patient care
* Monitor and manage the basic needs of each patient
* Prepare the operating room for surgery.

* Prepare and operate medical and dental equipment, including dental x-ray.

* Maintain a sterile environment.

* Maintain patient safety during the procedure.

* Preparation of fluid therapy and monitoring
* Assist veterinarian in all aspects during surgical procedures; pre-medication, set up, induction, preparation and maintenance of general anesthesia, surgical monitoring, surgical assisting, recovery, writing post op orders and pain management protocols
* Admit patients to hospital by following all admission protocols
* Proficient use of Cornerstone
* Prepare patients for discharge to owners including client education about home care and medications to be given
* Clear understanding and enforcement of OSHA regulations and hospital safety standards
* The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
* Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
* Knowledge of advanced fluid therapy, anesthetic monitoring, CPR and aspects of laboratory and radiology is ideal
* Knowledge of medical indications of pharmaceuticals, common drug interactions and approximate dosages
* Excellent communication skills
* Strong work ethic and a positive attitude
* Must be flexible and able to adapt to new situations
* Ability to act as a team player
CT minimum wage is set at $15.69/hr, and acts as a base pay for entry level (probationary period) employees, however, each individual's beginning wage is based upon prior experience and education level.
