Nurses regularly employed by SPS will be paid their regular hourly rate based upon their current step and educational level in effect for the ******** school year.
Current SPS LPNs will be paid the rate of their regular school year hourly wage rate or Step 1 of the nurse's Salary Schedule N120, whichever is greater. Any non-exempt nurses who work in excess of forty (40) hours in designated workweek shall be compensated in accordance with the requirements of the law for such excess time worked.

*All seated teachers and support staff are required to work an additional 30 minutes beyond the instructional day to assist in supervising during arrival/dismissal. This site principal will decide and communicate whether the 30 minutes will be tacked on before or after (or split between) the instructional day.
GENERAL PURPOSE
This position is responsible for providing support to the educational process with specific responsibilities for overseeing the individual health needs of students; implementing health care plans directed by physicians; ensuring district health care practices comply with the laws relating to student health issues; providing appropriate immediate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured students; and serving as a health care resource to teachers, staff, and administrators; conducting mandated health screenings; identifying health problems for referral to appropriate parties for proper follow up treatment; and promoting an optimal level of wellness for students and staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Administers mandated screenings (e.g. vision, dental, hearing and/or back/scoliosis screenings, etc.) for the purpose of referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children.
Administers first aid, medication and specialized medical treatments (e.g. oral suctioning, catheterization, G tubes, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or
Assesses situations involving students' safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug, etc.) and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements.
Collaborates with parents, students, health care providers, and/or public agencies (e.g. Tooth Truck, Health Fairs, etc.) for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services; providing information and complying with legal requirements.
Develops individual student care plans for the purpose of addressing students' health needs; providing direction to site personnel and/or and implementing directions provided by parents and/or physicians.
Assist with enrollment (immunizations, medical history).
Inputs student health care records into student information system for the purpose of maintaining accurate up to date information.
Maintains student's confidential files and records (e.g. health care plans, agency referrals, accident reports, health care records, etc.) for the purpose of providing information required by legal requirements and professional standards.
Maintains contact with parents/guardians for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health and/or recommending further medical and/or emotional intervention.
Monitors student with chronic illnesses and/or referred for illness and/or injury for the purpose of attending to their immediate health care concerns, initiating follow-up care and assisting the child in achieving the highest functional level.
Orders health care equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars (e.g. staff meetings, interdisciplinary teams, Professional Development, etc.) for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students health needs, service delivery, and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. workman compensation assessments, emergency action plans, ADHD paperwork, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
Provides training on a variety of health related subjects (e.g. CPR, disaster preparedness, child abuse, health education, medication management, policies and procedures, substance abuse, growth and development, food allergies, STDs, hygiene, etc.) for the purpose of promoting a healthy lifestyle and/or acting as a resource to students, teachers, and other school personnel.
Refers students requiring additional medical attention for the purpose of providing required follow-up treatment and services.
Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies (e.g. fights, suspected child or substance abuse, contagious diseases, restraints, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students' personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
Researches a variety of topics relating to health and medical care (e.g. wellness, nutrition, treatment protocols, childhood diseases, etc.) for the purpose of providing information to staff, students, parents, and the public.
Responds to emergency medical situations (e.g. severe falls, prescription reactions, bleeding, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring appropriate immediate medical attention and related follow-up action.
Responds to a wide variety of inquiries from parents, students, staff, and/or outside agencies for the purpose of counseling, resolving problems, providing information and/or referring to appropriate personnel.
Serves as a liaison for doctors, parents, community agencies and/or staff for the purpose of providing and/or gathering information and assuring access and continuity of health care of students.
Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience
Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of two (2) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses and Other Special Requirements
Must have Missouri State Nursing License.
Must pass a Criminal Background Clearance.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Work environment is primarily indoors, where the noise and temperature levels are moderate.
The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the physical ability to work primarily with fingers, perceive the nature of sounds, make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, express or exchange ideas by the spoken word, substantial movements (motions) with the hands, wrists, and/or fingers, and discern letters or numbers at a given distance.
Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: balancing, climbing, feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
