Closing Date: March 14, 2024 Teck Alaska Incorporated, Red Dog Operations, one of the world's largest producers of zinc concentrate, is recruiting for an External Affairs Coordinator. Due to anticipated needs, we are currently recruiting for a career oriented individual to fill this role.
Position will be based in Teck Alaska's Anchorage or Kotzebue Office; work schedule will be Monday – Friday 8am-5pm
Reporting to the Senior Advisor, Government & External Affairs
Responsibilities: • Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
• Liaise with local and regional governments including the Northwest Arctic Borough, Northwest Arctic Borough School District and local city and tribal governments with respect to Red Dog Operations
• Support work with NANA staff on legislative, public policy and regional concerns related to Red Dog Operations and State lands exploration
• Support development of RDO government relations strategies and issues management
• Manage compliance with all applicable rules and regulations in relation to government affairs activities (e.g. lobbyist registries, reports)
• Support lobby efforts and interacts with elected officials
• Represent Teck professionally in meetings with external audiences
• Liaise with Teck corporate staff and Teck America staff on relevant US federal government matters
• Represent the company's position in various member associations' committees, task forces and working groups
• Support the department in budget development for the Government and External Affairs function
External Job Description
Qualifications: • Minimum three (3) years demonstrated experience in roles of progressively increasing responsibility in the field of local, state or federal government, government affairs, Northwest Alaska regional affairs and community relations.
• Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Business, Rural Development or Communications. College degree may be waived if equivalent, extensive related experience can be demonstrated
• Excellent understanding of Northwest Alaska, regional and local political processes and community and regional affairs
• Understand legislative processes in Alaska
• Ability to assist in executing government relations plans and/or programs
• Assist in management of multiple priorities based on relative importance and urgency
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and cultivate relationships with internal and external stakeholders
• Strong research, writing and presentation skills
• Understanding of social media tools and their impact on communications
• Strong analytical capabilities and close attention to detail
• Ensure quality control for own product
• Strong demonstrable computer skills, in particular with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
• Team player and leader who brings creativity, enthusiasm and a strategic outlook
• Ability to handle difficult and challenging assignments
• Contribute to establishing the strategic sustainability and external affairs direction of the company by participating in the Community and Government Affairs strategic and business planning process
