Overview:
This position performs skilled mechanical trades work in the maintenance and repair of Health Care District property, structures, and equipment.
The mechanical trades include HVAC, plumbing, and electrical.
Employees in this class have considerable experience in the trade, but perform a wide variety of non-specialized facility maintenance work to support efficient functioning of the District facilities.
This position works with other facilities maintenance personnel in completing projects as needed.
This position is responsible for on-call emergency call backs.
Responsibilities:
Performs complex maintenance and repairs on structures, facilities, equipment, and other District property in the electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
Reads blueprints, diagrams, and/or sketches in the preparation and performance of tasks.
Performs preventive maintenance according to assigned schedules or when directed.
Operates various hand-held manual, electrical, gas and trade specific tools and equipment (e.g., welders, meters, gauges, saws, drills, hammers).
Performs system inspections.
Maintains and ensures the safe operating condition of assigned equipment and tools according to established department policy and sound trade practices.
Performs various record maintenance duties where applicable, i.e., work orders, materials and supplies utilized, cost estimates, labor required, maintenance logs.
Recognizes and reports any detected deterioration, repair needs, and maintenance needs to supervisor.
Assists with the planning, estimating, and coordination of more complex tasks.
Assists other facilities maintenance staff in supporting the safety and physical integrity of property, structures, facilities, and equipment of the District.
Inspects and maintains sprinkler systems, security cameras, generator, chiller, and air handlers.
Maintains asset logs and inventories, and ensures supply levels are full.
Performs janitorial duties and painting throughout the facility.
Emergency duty may be required of the incumbent that includes working in Red Cross shelters or to perform other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Qualifications:
Education: High School Diploma or G.E.D.
required and vocational/technical diploma in trade apprenticeship preferred.
Experience: Three (3) to five (5) years successful experience demonstrating skill in all aspects of the trade required.
