Factory Quality Engineer

Position Summary:

The Factory Quality Engineer is responsible for driving continuous process improvement in the manufacturing process to improve First-Time-Right, reduce the Cost of Poor Quality, and address timely quality discrepancies and countermeasures to minimize any impact on delivery commitments.
He / she will collaborate with their Factory team in assessing, developing, and executing process improvement initiatives and operational enhancement programs that deliver strategic value and profitable growth for their business.

Primary Responsibilities:
•Coordinate all quality activities in manufacturing and works collaboratively with customer quality engineering to ensure the flow-down and compliance with customer contractual requirements.
•Works with development, project, supplier and manufacturing engineering, with manufacturing, planning and other disciplines to ensure the quality of the product.
•Investigate internal and external quality concerns, and lead cross functional teams to determine root cause, and implement permanent corrective actions.
•Inspect and review lot manufacturing and quality records completeness and correctness.
•Analyze work instructions and procedures for errors and potential failure points.
•Establishes in-process quality control audits, reports results and drives improvements.
•Establishes FOD prevention programs and drives improvements with the operations teams
•Leads the Factory Material Review Board, drives timely disposition of materials and effective corrective actions.
•Develops and implements Visual Quality Factory
•Drives Built-In-Quality in the manufacturing processes
•Drives quality improvements through variation reduction with process controls, clear quality defect criteria, clear and accurate manufacturing work instructions, effective training, and creative and innovative human error elimination tools.
•Works with supplier quality engineering in the effective resolution of supplier quality defects affecting manufacturing first-time-right.

•Works with manufacturing engineering in the optimization of manufacturing processes, including automation of manufacturing, in-process and final quality inspection methods to reduce ergonomic safety risks for manufacturing and quality control employees.
•Supports engineering during both the development cycle and product introduction phase for various defense and military related products.
•Ensures the execution of customer product quality plans and specifications and supports the preparation of physical configuration audits, collection, and analysis of F.A.I data, and any customer quality activity in the manufacturing floor.
•Establishes trends, paretos, analyzes manufacturing quality data and drives continuous improvement activities through the Problem-Solving Process engaging manufacturing, engineering, and quality personnel as required in a team focused problem-solving environment.

•Supports Visual Daily Management and drives daily short term quality countermeasures for timely resolution of quality discrepancies.
•Conducts frequent process spot audits, and drives and coordinates rapid response with manufacturing, and quality control supervisors and leads, manufacturing engineering and workforce employees as necessary.

•Ensures the manufacturing activities are performed in compliance with the Quality Management System requirements.

•Initiates change proposals in collaboration with manufacturing, customer and project engineering.

•Builds a quality library of defects, containment and corrective actions and lessons learned.
•Prepares and communicates quality alerts to heighten employee awareness towards internal or external quality concerns.

Job Qualifications:
•Strong analytical and critical thinking capabilities, sound judgement coupled with effective decision making skills.

•Passion for problem solving and continuous improvement
•Ability to drive Containment, Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Actions in a cross-functional team environment, and knowledge and experience with the 8D Methodology.

•Knowledge and experience with preference in a variety of Lean tools such as, Standard Work, Value Stream Mapping, Daily Visual Management, 5S, 5Whys, Fishbone, Fault Tree Analysis, Problem Solving Process, and Visual Project Management.
•Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while meeting challenging deadlines.
•Track record of delivering results in a high paced and constantly changing environment
•Excellent attention to detail and follow up.
•Strong work ethic, and self-motivated with the ability to work independently or in a team atmosphere.
•BS Degree in Engineering, (Mechanical, Chemical, Materials and/or Physics) or a minimum of 5 years manufacturing quality experience.
•Experience in the Defense Industry with preference working in ordnance and use of energetic materials, powders/propellants is highly preferred
•Good understanding of statistics, with particular emphasis on process control, sample selection and measurement systems.
•Ability to create and implement process control plans
•Experience with AS9100 / ISO 9000 quality management systems, corrective and preventative action, CDRLs.
NDT, MIL-STD-1916, and MIL-STD-1168
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Good organization and project time management skills
•Six Sigma Green belt certification or higher preferred
•Experience with statistical analysis software such as Minitab
•Experience with enterprise tools such as Cost Point, Cost Point M.E.S is preferred
•Proficient in Word, Power Point and Excel
•Experience with PFMEAs, PLVs and SPC is preferred
•ASQ Certification is desirable, CQE/Quality Auditor.
•Ability to obtain BATF approval to engage in certain explosive operations
