Job Description Summary: Responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom. The instructor must remain current in the discipline area and continually explore teaching methods and strategies to engage learners, organize and plan instructional content that accommodates diverse learning styles, and devise appropriate assessment tools that monitor student learning outcomes. The instructor is also responsible for participating in related activities to include professional development, academic advising, curriculum design, and other activities that contribute to the department, division, and College. The instructor performs all other duties as directed by the Department Chair, Division Dean, or the President or designee.
Prince George's Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in English, beginning in Fall 2024. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to high-quality undergraduate education. Preference will be given to candidates with degrees in composition and rhetoric, as well with experience teaching developmental co-requisite composition courses and with experience teaching at the college level. Continuing Tenure Track: Faculty hired on 2-year conditional track, upon successful performance and evaluation, the hires may continue towards tenure track, and is renewable each year for two years. Minimum Qualifications: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master's degree in English, or equivalent with a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in English. One year full-time, or equivalent part-time teaching experience at the college or high school level in composition and/or business/technical writing. *Satisfactory completion of 30 semester hours or more of relevant academic study in an accredited doctoral program may, at the discretion of the Vice President, be determined to meet this requirement.
Job Requirements: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle, or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions maybe required. Occasionally the ability to physically move and lift materials 5-25 pounds maybe required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS Ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written standard English. As required by the 1986 Immigration Act, be prepared to present acceptable documentation showing your identity and that you are a U.S. citizen or an alien who is authorized to work. A background investigation will be conducted prior to the offer of employment. A signed authorization for the release of personal information will be required if selected for an interview.
