Open DateDescriptionThe Department of Family Medicine (DFM), University of Washington has a unique opportunity to join the Department's nationally acclaimed Research Section. We invite applications for one (1) full-time research assistant professor opening to join an exciting and growing Research Section with long established successes in the areas of health workforce, rural health, and practice-based research. The University of Washington is a recognized leader in primary care and family medicine by the U.S. News and World Report, in part due to the long-standing research relevance and productivity of the Department of Family Medicine's Research Section.
Center for Health Workforce Studies (CHWS) is housed in DFM with the mission to elevate the importance of workers in the delivery of health care in policy discussions. CHWS includes two multi-year cooperative agreement grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in the areas of i.) allied health workforce and ii.) health equity and workforce diversity. CHWS has additional funding from other federal and state grants and contracts as well as foundations to conduct policy-relevant research on a wide spectrum of health professions including physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, and the behavioral health workforce. CHWS's multidisciplinary team collaborates with investigators across the Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Public Health as well as external institutions. The expected start date is January 1, 2025, or soon thereafter.
Research Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
This position is not eligible for tenure.
The base salary for this position will be $8,333 - $10,417 per month ($100,000 - $125,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
The primary responsibility of this faculty position is to advance health workforce both regionally and nationally. This position will be expected to secure external research funding and translate findings effectively to policy makers and other stakeholders. This position will also work closely and collaboratively with WWAMI RHRC, Research Section faculty, the Department of Family Medicine, and external collaborators to build a strong program of research advancing our strategic missions.
Other duties of the successful applicant may include mentoring and training students, residents, fellows, non-research faculty, and/or professional staff research scientists.
QualificationsApplicants are required to have a doctorate in a related field (including PhD, DrPH, or DNP) or foreign equivalent. An MD with research expertise in a relevant area is also acceptable.
Applicants are required to have excellent core skills in health services research, including both quantitative and qualitative methods, and demonstrated application of these methods in conducting health workforce analysis.
Applicants must have research expertise in the areas of nursing, maternal and child health, and public health workforces.
