Position Highlights Institute for Energy Solutions in Arizona Institute for Resilience at the University of Arizona is in search of an RECI Fellow (Postdoctoral Research Associate I). The fellowship will begin in Fall 2024 and will be funded for three academic years. Depending on work performance and funding, this position can be extended. Applicants with financial support from other sources are welcome to apply. The Fellow will be responsible for two separate initiatives. The first will be to contribute to the development of a Living Implementation Guide, which will include best practices, tools, education, and other resources to help communities undertake the adoption and implementation of advanced building codes. The second will be to conduct a sociotechnical study of the code change process itself, with the intent of advancing scientific, academic, and institutional knowledge. The broader study should be informed by and contribute to the broader academic literature on standards and regulation, with specific products, such as white papers and conference presentations, making contributions by equipping key decisionmakers with data-driven findings informed by social science research.
Institute for Energy Solutions (IES) is a member institution of the Arizona Institute for Resilience (AIR). IES provides a hub for cross-college energy science, policy and technology research and development, which benefits the public and enhances the land-grant mission of the University of Arizona. The Institute is a platform for energy experts, who work closely with industry, NGOs, government, and communities to address emerging energy challenges and opportunities.
IES works to advance research, outreach and educational activities at the University of Arizona, focused on creating safe, resilient, and secure Energy Solutions. The institute builds on the success of the University of Arizona Renewable Energy Network (UAREN) to create an organization that expands the collaboration with others to respond to the deeply interrelated sustainability issues associated with the energy-water-food nexus and implements solutions that reach under-served populations on a regional scale.

Knowledge, skills & abilities: The Institute for Energy Solutions and Arizona Institute for Resilience will help the Fellow cultivate a network of peers and mentors within the University, in our local and regional communities, at national labs and other institutions. The Fellow will develop these connections to inform the development of the study and increase the uptake of findings. Excellent English written and oral communications skills Familiarity with community engagement processes Minimum Qualifications A recent PhD degree in social science (such as information studies, science and technology studies, sociology, anthropology, public policy, human or cultural geography, architecture, or allied fields), or engineering, upon hire. Dissertation or other research work must exhibit experience with qualitative research methods. Preferred Qualifications Experience and/or interest in communicating complex information to divergent audiences using strategies grounded in theory and an ability to work with both qualitative and quantitative data. Training and experience in participant observation, ethnographic methods, and/or other standard social science research methods. Experience in translational research. Experience in architecture, engineering, construction, or building operations. FLSA Exempt
