Field Innovation Scientist
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Field Innovation Scientist position provides critical expertise and leadership as it relates to key areas of Research and Development innovation, discovery, deployment, training, and change management within the Breeding Field Testing team. The Scientist leads discovery efforts and drives project management, including playbook & roadmap development, valuation analysis, and implementation of advanced research technology where applicable. They will build and maintain cross-functional relationships with business partners while enhancing the field-testing culture for characterizing research capacity and continuous improvement as it relates to digital optimization, equipment, and other advanced technology.
The primary responsibilities of this role,Field Innovation Scientist II (located in Jerseyville, Illinois; Urbandale, Iowa; Huxley, Iowa; Monmouth, Illinois)are:
Innovate, develop, and implement advanced research workflow, imagery, and equipment concepts to help drive efficiency and effectiveness in field testing and other areas within the company where applicable;
Collaborate with cross-functional teams focused on translating innovative ideas into conceptual designs, prototypes, proposals, and help implement projects at our field-testing sites;
Partner with Legal and IP teams to ensure that all related efforts are following FTO and IP valuation processes;
Provide regular and timely updates on project status, key milestones, challenges and next steps to key stakeholders and leadership;
Drive new technology development relative to precision breeding, product placement, and other strategies that accelerate genetic gain in Breeding and can be implemented at the field level;
Build relationships with external partners to identify innovation opportunities and help build out for implementation and utilization within Breeding;
Comply with all Bayer regulatory compliance guidelines for Confined Release and Stewarded Trial material;
Manage budgets and resources needed for project development and team support.
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related discipline;
Travel (up to 25%) to evaluate innovation science projects or conduct other critical business activities.
Valid driver's license; Ability to obtain CDL as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of seven years of experience in agronomy, sales, field development or Research & Development related roles, OR M.S. with five years' experience; OR Ph.D. with three years in Agriculture or related discipline;
Demonstrated leadership experience with full-time and/or part-time employees or successfully managing projects through influence;
Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams to achieve common goals;
Demonstrated experience leading and influencing activities of cross functional teams without direct reporting relationships;
Ability to lead and influence key stakeholders through challenges and opportunities; facilitates solutions;
Results orientation with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects/priorities simultaneously;
Strong communication, decision-making, prioritization, and problem-solving skills;
Strong domain knowledge and understanding of crop production and field research practices;
Demonstrates flexibility in an agile work environment;
Strong computer skills related to data acquisition, organization, and analysis;
Strong working knowledge of research operations and ability to interpret / interact with large data sets;
Proven ability to help multiple stakeholders understand and implement modern agricultural research concepts;
Ability to delegate and trust decision making process deeper in the organization.
The position can be in Jerseyville, Illinois; Urbandale, Iowa; Huxley, Iowa; Monmouth, Illinois.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $99,699.48 - $149,549.22/yr. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
