The Field Service Technician in the mining industry is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of spray system equipment and machinery. This role requires hands-on technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a thorough understanding of mining and industrial operations. The technician will work on-site at various customer locations, ensuring equipment functionality and minimizing downtime to optimize production efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
System Design, Installation, and Setup:Collaborate in designing and installing new spray system equipment and associated machinery.
Ensure all installations meet company and industry standards.
Product Services:Dust Control/Antioxidants:Implement and maintain dust control systems to ensure a safe working environment. Treat large volumes of coal, ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 tons per hour.
Freeze Control:Manage and maintain systems to prevent equipment and pipelines from freezing.
Maintain Water Treatment Systems:Oversee the operation and maintenance of water treatment systems.
Check levels and systems to ensure proper operation.
Ensure there are no leaks and manage inventory.
Prepare for potential telemetry integration in future operations.
Mechanical Skills:Utilize strong mechanical skills to perform various tasks related to equipment maintenance and repair.
Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment failures and malfunctions.
Conduct repairs and replace defective parts promptly.
Collaborate with the technical support team for complex repair issues.
Provide on-site technical support and training to mining personnel.
Assist in the development of technical manuals and training materials.
Offer guidance on best practices for equipment operation and maintenance.
Troubleshooting and Maintenance Solutions:Identify issues, troubleshoot problems, and source parts necessary for maintenance solutions.
Perform scheduled and preventive maintenance on spray systems and equipment.
Inspect and test machinery regularly to ensure optimal performance.
Document all maintenance activities and update maintenance logs.
Engage in fabricating, building tanks, and working on pipes to support mining operations.
Safety & Material Handling:Unload trucks into storage tanks.
Order trucks to deliver necessary products and materials.
Manage and treat railcars and barges, ensuring efficient loading and unloading processes.
Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations during all work activities.
Conduct safety inspections of equipment and report any hazards.
Participate in safety training sessions and drills.
Sales and Relationship Building:Leverage relationships developed on-site to identify sales opportunities and manage project-related tasks, such as relocating equipment between mining sites.
Qualifications:
Education:High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in mechanical, electrical, PLC (programmable logic controller) controls, or industrial maintenance preferred.
Experience:1 year of experience in equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in the mining industry.
Experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems is preferred.
Skills:Strong mechanical and technical skills.
Ability to work autonomously.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
Proficiency with diagnostic tools and software.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Exposure to harsh and potentially hazardous conditions typical of mining environments.
Work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
Frequent travel and extended stays at remote mining locations, up to 75% of the time. Mostly domestic, potentially some international travel.
