Tenderloin Center at 180 Golden Gate Ave., San Francisco. Candidates must be located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area, where we have an open-office environment with substantial ambient noise and overheard conversations. This role tends to work two days in person and three days from home.
Salary: $110K-$135K, depending on experience.

The Finance Director oversees the finance functions of 826 Valencia, and guides the design, implementation, and improvement of all our financial processes and systems so that they are accurate, inclusive, and effective. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented and collaborative system builder who can juggle both the big financial picture and the day-to-day processes with equal skill and attention.
Position SnapshotBuilds, monitors, and reports on all financial systems.Collaborates across diverse teams and with the Board to make finance functions accessible, transparent, and effective.Innovates to build efficiencies and promote practices that support the long-term sustainability of the organization.Reporting RelationshipsThe Finance Director reports to the Executive Director and oversees the Bookkeeping Team (external consultants) and the Administrative Coordinator.
Major ResponsibilitiesProvide the vision, leadership, and management necessary to ensure the proper financial controls and systems are in place to maintain financial strength and transparency across the organization.Prepare financial reports and forecasts as requested by the Executive Director, Department Heads, and Board of Directors.Advise the Executive Director and Board of Directors on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, and financial policy matters.Provide financial risk management analyses and proactively review, anticipate, and address any potential risks affecting the financial systems.Finance OperationsWith the Executive Director and key input from stakeholders, lead processes to build the annual organizational and program budgets and multi-year forecasts.Effectively manage the overall accounting and bookkeeping for the organization, including accounts payable and receivable, inventory and capital assets, banking, and payroll functions.Complete monthly close process in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including financial reporting and analysis of financial statements.Serve as the main point of contact with auditors and ensure successful completion of state and federal audit and tax filings; ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.Manage the accounting team (consultants).Support a half-time Administrative Coordinator who handles revenue reconciliation.Work closely with the Advancement Team to record all contributed revenue in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, including but not limited to:Creating and monitoring grant budgets and grant-related financial information.Tracking use of restricted funds.Producing revenue reports.Budgeting and invoicing for government grants.Other ResponsibilitiesActively participate in 826 Valencia meetings (including internal committees on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion), Board meetings, performance appraisal systems, and other work events (such as DEI trainings, professional development workshops, and the annual 826 National conference).Support programs as needed in order to gain a broad and deep understanding of our work; all non-programs staff are expected to tutor with at least one program per week (approx. 2 hours).All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.Required Skills and AbilitiesClear knowledge of fiscal policies specific to 501c3 nonprofit organizations, including fund accounting.Advanced knowledge of and demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and QuickBooks for nonprofits.Designs enduring, scalable, and codified systems that enable staff success and achieve results while maximizing resources.Ensures day-to-day operations within purview are having maximum impact toward organizational strategy; makes sound and culturally competent decisions that drive the organization forward and marshals the appropriate resources to execute.Anticipates and embraces stakeholder reactions and works to address concerns in ways (timing, vehicle, messaging, delivery) that resonate; manages and aligns stakeholder expectations.Develops and implements systems to take down silos within and across departments, creating formal/informal structures for cross-department collaboration that leverages differences and inspires trust among members.Models expectations for an inclusive environment where staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and students from all backgrounds thrive.Demonstrates highly developed awareness of how one's leadership and behaviors directly and indirectly impact others.Creates a culture of professional development, continuous feedback, and mutual support among staff within purview and in collaboration with other Directors.Preferred SkillsKnowledge of Payroll software, Salesforce, best practices for grants tracking.Education and Experience RequirementsBachelor's degree in business or accounting related field, MA preferred.A minimum of seven years of experience with arts/education administration and/or nonprofit management, including bookkeeping, financial reporting, payroll, etc.$110K-$135K annual salary.
Paid Time Off: 15 vacation days per year (20 days after two years), 9 wellness days per year, 14 holidays, and winter office closure.
