Summary
The Financial Planning Analyst collects and analyzes financial data from a variety of sources and provides recommendations based on the analysis. The position supports the Financial Planning and Analysis team in various financial projects and development of the Board and division budgets. The position directly interacts with division staff and serves as a liaison to Board divisions providing customer service related to financial matters.
Duties And Responsibilities
Collects, selects, and analyzes financial data, variances, and other financial data to ensure expenditures and potential recommendations affecting these expenditures are consistent with governing documentation.
May develop, utilize, and maintain financial models and perform analysis on the data obtained from these models across a variety of financial areas to provide options and possible recommendations to senior section staff.
Acts as liaison to divisions and is responsible for analyzing, reviewing, and monitoring variances, issues, options, and potential recommendations for each division in line with their budget, the Board's overall budget and forecast.
Provides accurate, timely, and comprehensive information and analysis to management by assembling and summarizing data, preparing clear and concise reports, presenting findings and recommendations to senior staff and manager and drafting implementation plans for follow-up actions.
Builds collaborative relationships with customers and administrative staff within the organization. Builds rapport, is able to manage difficult situations, and builds trust with stakeholders.
Develops own professional skills, including identifying and initiating activities to ensure this development and maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of practices and relevant automation skills within the financial field.
Requires the ability to work under pressure, multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and quickly adjust to changing situations.
Position Requirements
Requires good analytical ability and oral and written communications skills typically acquired by completion of a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting, Public policy or a related field, or equivalent experience. Requires at least three years' experience in financial analysis. Ability to utilize automated methodologies to assist in financial analysis and document preparation required. Uses mathematical techniques for financial analysis and has knowledge of the Board's financial administrative procedures.
FR-25 requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and at least four years of financial analytical experience in the areas of financial management, budgetary processes, and financial forecasting. Must possess the ability to utilize various financial automation tools, such as forecasting models, complex spreadsheets, and business intelligence tools. Requires knowledge of word processing software and the ability to compose and edit documents, reports, and other communication tools ensuring they are accurate and concise. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in both an oral and written manner to a diverse audience. Requires the ability to understand broad financial concepts, detailed processes, the financial environment, and the strategic plan and objectives of each division or Reserve Bank.
Requires good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with senior staff within the function and division administrative staff. Ability to provide excellent customer service and handle difficult customer situations is a priority.
Performs tasks requiring a substantial depth of analysis using many different, complex and unrelated financial processes and methods to provide financial data, system requirements, RFPs, and contract negotiations.
This position requires a combination of telework and an in-office presence (at least one day per week) and will support the Chief Operating Officer, Division of Financial Management and the Division of Management.
