Position Summary The Food Preparation Supervisor/Cook is responsible for meal preparation, supervision of part-time servers, directing food service activities in the absence of the Food Service Director, monitoring security and safety practices, and coordinating the production and serving of food. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Duties include meal preparation, inventory, clean-up, supervising part-time servers, interaction with residents, family members, and staff, providing superior customer service, and other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of food preservation and storage techniques; food preparation and serving requirements in a large food service facility; menus, nutritional requirements, and sanitation regulations; inventory and receiving. Ability to read and interpret menus and special diets; supervise food service personnel; inspect food shipments and inventory; estimate food preparation amounts; ensure compliance with food preparation and storage laws, regulations, or standards.

Required Education and/or Experience The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of experience in institutional or commercial food service operations and/or specialized training in food service, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
