Foster Program Manager
Full-time, exempt position
Essential duties and primary job purpose include the following. Other duties as assigned.
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Director, the Foster Program Manager will facilitate the foster program for HSTT's entire service area.
The primary responsibility is for the coordination of HSTT's foster program, assuring proper sanitation, efficient and humane care of animals in foster care, training, supervision, and support of foster volunteers, necessary communication with other departments of the organization as it relates to the foster program, and assist with other shelter operation tasks as assigned.
Representative Tasks and Major Responsibilities
Overseeing all aspects of the foster program and ensuring the best interest of the animals and foster homes is a top priority.Organize and conduct training for foster volunteers in accordance with HSTT's mission and philosophy. Update training materials, programs, and curriculum as needed.Maintain current records for trained fosters, including contact information and fostering abilities.Along with the Community Engagement Director and the Operations Director, assist in resolving disputes and terminating foster volunteers blatantly disregarding HSTT policies.Work with other HSTT departments to actively recruit foster families.Stay apprised of other foster programs and implement new systems as needed.Facilitate the movement of shelter animals into foster care and back to the shelter.Monitor the health and behavior of animals in foster care and report findings/issues to the Operations Director and shelter medical team as appropriate.Coordinate vaccines, rechecks, and drop-off times with foster animals.Keep foster materials and programs current and provide appropriate training materials, manuals, and handouts to all foster volunteers.Coordinate foster animal transportation.Have a plan in place for rapid response to foster animal emergencies.Work closely with the Operations Director to prepare foster animals for adoption and make them available as needed.Keep all staff updated on changes to foster programs; provide staff training for foster program procedures as needed; ensure staff provides accurate information to foster volunteers and potential adopters.With the Operations Director, set measurable growth and programmatic goals and achieve them.Uphold HSTT values and mission both in and out of the workplace.Qualifications & Experience
Experience with domestic pets (dogs, cats) required. Prefer one or more years of experience in an animal shelter or veterinary setting with a good understanding of the day-to-day activities related to shelter operations.Demonstrated knowledge of principles of supervision and motivation techniques. Knowledge of decision-making techniques, skill in mediating disputes, conflicts, and grievancesDemonstrated interpersonal skills, including public speaking, conflict resolution, performance feedback, and ability to communicate effectively with diverse individuals and groups.Demonstrated program management knowledge in developing training materials and the ability to organize and conduct group and individual training sessions for adults and children.Valid California driver's license with a good driving history.Must be able to work independently and be self-motivated.Knowledge of domestic animals, including breeds, behavior, appropriate care and housing, common health problems, disease symptoms, and handling techniques, is preferred.Weekends, evenings, and variable schedules required.Work well in emotional and stressful situations.Commitment to the mission, goals, and success of HSTT.Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred. At least 1+ years of related animal care experience and/or training is preferred, as well as 2+ years of management experience.Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds routinely.Must be able to perform strenuous manual labor and move quickly in an agile manner when dealing with animals and in cases of emergency.Must be able to work with physically strong dogs.Must be able to handle cats and other small animals.Must be able to bend, stoop, hike, walk, kneel, and lift comfortably.Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard,As a valued member of the HSTT family, you'll receive a comprehensive benefits package that includes:

POSITION: Full-time, non-exempt, approximately 40 hours per week. Daily reporting hours and days of the week may vary according to the needs of the department. Includes weekend, evening, and holiday work. Requires on-call availability during the work week.
