Campfire is building the next generation of games and consumer apps powered by AI. Our first product is a cozy lifesim game with AI NPCs at the heart of the gameplay experience for PC and mobile platforms. We are a small and laser focused team doing something new and innovative.
We are a team of experienced product builders from Peloton, Microsoft, and Replika who've built products and games for millions of people. We're backed by some of the world's top tech and gaming investors including YCombinator and backers of Coinbase, Instacart and many more.
We're looking for a founding engineer to join our team! You'll be employee #5 and the heart of the founding technical team. You will help develop critical features for Campfire's foundations and help it scale as we launch. It is the perfect time to join this rocketship and make huge impact.
You will work on building out the core Sprites product- from UIs, authentication, applied AI, payments, backend services, live operations, infrastructure and even more! You will have major influence on the company's foundational stack.
Our ideal candidate can grow and become the CTO as the company scales. Significant equity compensation is part of the deal.
You will:
Help define and create our core technology stack architecture along with the technical founder
Build features across the board- anything core features of the Sprites platform, to authentication and billing, and everything in between
Develop server apps, cloud functions, cron jobs etc required to support live and networked user features such as push notifications
Contribute to overall developer velocity by smartly investing in our tools
Rapidly prototype ideas for growth features
You must have:
Demonstrated history of being a hands on builder of snappy consumer or prosumer products- work or hobby projects
3+ years of experience working as a Software Engineer in web or mobile apps, having worked across the entire stack- UIs to infrastructure.
You're equally comfortable building a beautiful sign up flow pixel perfect to Figma designs and implementing a CSV sync integration.
Some familiarity with native iOS app development and Swift- or at least eager to learn the basics fast
Familiarity with modern cloud platforms such as Google Cloud or AWS
Experience with fundamentals of scaling backend- you know your auto scaling groups and load balancers
Creative eye and a user-first mentality
Passion for cutting edge of applied AI for consumers and gaming- ideally both!
Bonus Points for:
Experience with live services and rapid-deployment
Experience with multiplatform mobile product codebases like Unity, React Native, Flutter, etc
Desire to make huge impact at an early stage venture backed gaming startup with huge upside
We strongly prefer candidates based in San Francisco .
