Planned Parenthood Pasadena & San Gabriel Valley (PPPSGV) has been proudly serving our community since 1933 and is one of the original Planned Parenthood affiliates in the nation. 
We provide reproductive health care, health education and advocacy from our five health centers in Alhambra, Baldwin Park, Glendora, Highland Park, and Pasadena, in addition to our telehealth clinic.  We strive to ensure?the?sexual and reproductive health services we provide align with?the?needs of?the?communities we serve. Our service area extends from Glendora to Glendale and from?the?San Gabriel mountains to?the?San Bernardino freeway, home to 24 communities and a diverse population of 1.4 million people. 
Today, PPPSGV sees over 60,000 patient visits per year and delivers over 15,000 opportunities for sex and relationship education in our schools and colleges.  
We offer safe and legal abortions.  We are committed to providing accurate, non-judgmental care and resources by helping our patients overcome financial, transportation, and other barriers to care.  In addition, we work with abortion funds and practical support network to support our patients.   Our abortion care has increased every year since 2018 with an average of 3,500 abortions per year.  We saw close to 4,000 abortion patients in 2022 alone, approximately 59 were out-of-state patients. 
The Front Office Specialist is the face of PPPSGV and responsible for supporting the delivery of health care services. The Front Office Specialist facilitates the patient visit by registering patients, ensuring applicable eligibility and demographic information is accurately captured in the practice management system and interfacing with the patients and other health center staff to ensure high quality, efficient delivery of care and maximum reimbursement from 3rd party payors.
\n As a Front Office Specialist, you will save lives while you:Registers/Checks-in patientsDisplay strong listening skillsAccurately collect and enter demographic informationAccurately assess fee category for sliding fee scaleCorrectly identifies patient's insurance plan or provider group Accurately input of all 3rd party payer information to ensure maximum reimbursement to PPPSGVEffectively collect required co-pays and deductibles on the date of service Accurately communicates Insurance plan coverage to back office Schedule patient appointments Solicit feedback from patients at checkout regarding their visit Must follow HIPAA guidelines Posts charges to Electronic Practice Management System (EPM) for all pay types following established practices and procedures. Runs end-of-day reports as directed by Center Manager Ensures accuracy of charges from Electronic Medical Records System (EMR) for all pay types following established practices and procedures using Electronic Practice Management System (EPM). Runs endof-day reports as directed by Center ManagerEnsures all charges are entered into E.H.R on the day of the visitEnsures all charges are entered on date of serviceFunctions as charge entry specialist. Act as resource for other front office staff resolving problems and errors with charge entry. Contacts billing department personnel as necessary to help resolve health center billing questions or problemsContacts insurance companies to obtain benefit information and authorization for services when neededContacts appropriate staff to obtain information needed to complete billing and to resolve errorsNotifies supervisor of discrepancies or unusual occurrences in daily billing or computer software/hardwareProvides training on EPM system to new Front Office staff and on-going training for all staff May compile data for health center tracking and may perform daily audits Demonstrates PPPSGV customer service standards Oversees the cleanliness and comfort of the lobby and patient restroom Contributes to achieving health center productivity goals. Solicits donations from patients per PPPSGV guidelines Communicates clearly and conciselyCommunicates effectively in stressful situationsIs a strong contributor in the team's successTraining of new hires or staff needing cross-training (as designated). Perform other duties as assigned We are looking for someone with the following:Education:High School level education and above are welcomed to apply Experience: Insurance verification and charge entry experience highly preferredOne to two years customer service experience, preferably in a health care, medical or social services settingKeep track of more than one task at a timeMust be detail orientatedAbility to establish rapport with all clients. Must be able to understand and follow commercial insurance, MediCal and FPACT contract guidelines. Ability to take initiative and to utilize resources effectivelyWillingness to maintain relevant knowledge about insurance, anatomy and physiology, methods of contraception, STDs, pregnancy, adoption, abortion, early prenatal care, community resources, Agency protocols and referral procedures and all Planned Parenthood programsMust be able to work independently and as part of a teamSome positions require bilingual (Spanish/English/Mandarin) skillsFlexible scheduling includes weekend and evening hours. Assigned shift times may fluctuateWillingness to work and travel to other centers as needed based on health center patient demandAbility to communicate effectively with clients and co-workers of all backgroundsCapable of maintaining professionalism and composure when under pressureAbility to maintain confidentiality and discretionMust have strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and the InternetMust have the willingness and ability to adapt to change including advances in technologyMust have excellent customer service and be committed to providing the highest level of customer satisfactionConsistently display flexibility and must adapt to change Must display strong problem solving and critical thinking skills Maintain professional appearance Follow PPPSGV attendance policy Commitment to and support for the mission and goals of Planned Parenthood, including but not limited to, increasing access to abortion and decreasing abortion stigmaCommitment to quality healthcareExcellent customer service and commitment to providing the highest level of customer satisfaction Commitment to personal and/or organizational Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work, including the proficiency and/or strong willingness to use non-binary pronouns
\n$23 - $25 an hour
The hiring rate for this position is: $23- $25/hour + Medical, Dental, Vision, 401k Matching Program, Premium CALM account, holidays, paid time off and more!
