Position Overview:
We are excited to invite a passionate and qualified Sign Language Interpreter Teacher to join our educational community for the remainder of the school year. This is a fully remote position, dedicated to providing vital instructional support to students who are deaf or hard of hearing. The perfect candidate will be proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrate exceptional communication and teaching skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Interpretation Services: Provide sign language interpretation during virtual classes, meetings, and various educational activities.
Collaborative Support: Work closely with classroom teachers and other educators to facilitate effective communication and support the learning needs of students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Adaptation of Materials: Tailor instructional materials and strategies to accommodate the diverse needs of students.
Assessment and Feedback: Monitor student progress, offering constructive feedback to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and communication assignments.
Qualifications:
Educational Background: Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Sign Language Interpretation, or a related field.
Certification: Certified Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credential.
ASL Proficiency: Strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and a deep understanding of deaf culture and communication methods.
Experience: Prior experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting is preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Tech Savvy: Comfortable using technology for remote instruction and communication.
Licensure: Active licensure in the state of Virginia.
