General Juvenile Justice Internship – Redeploy
Location: Carroll
Schedule: Minimum of 16 hours per week, 24 hours preferred (hours are Monday – Friday between 9am – 9pm, 4 – 8 hours per day). All interns must drive.?
Position Overview:
The Redeploy Hub is an alternative to the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice.? It is an intensive outpatient program in which the youth is transported to the Hub daily from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. In the Hub they receive a multitude of services to include Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Mentoring; Recreational and Vocational activities; Positive Youth Development and Recreation.? If the youth is in an educational program during the day they are allowed to attend that, but otherwise must be in the Hub.? As the youth progresses and moves up in the level system they will spend less time in the Hub and more time back in their community.? They will continue to receive services during that time until they graduate from the program.? The family is considered an important part of this program and will be involved in the initial wrap-around staffing as well as family engagement activities and regular updates from the staff.??
The Juvenile Justice Intern will work closely with the Family Team Facilitators and Juvenile Justice Counselors to support youth at YOS through group counseling sessions and pro-social activities. The Intern will be responsible for the completion of intake assessments, case noting, and communication with Court Coordinators. All progress notes will need to reflect all communication pertaining to their clients and be completed weekly.
The Intern will also lead or co-lead weekly groups for youth utilizing program curriculum. The Intern may also develop and lead group activities outside of YOS occasionally to provide positive peer alternatives for the youth we serve in the community. The Intern will be expected to research and contact community resources to meet their client's needs. The Intern will meet with families at least once a month per client.?
The hours are Monday through Friday 9am – 9 pm, 4 – 8 hours per day.
This is an unpaid?internship; however, this position is eligible for academic credits. YOS is approved at many colleges/universities and can make necessary accommodations with most schools.
Qualifications: Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Technically proficient in Microsoft products. Bachelor's level student with a concentration in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or a related field. Must drive and have access to a car and be able to work the schedule. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
