Job Description:Summary:Barr is seeking a geologist to join one of its Minnesota offices and undertake challenging and progressive work on projects related to the investigation, evaluation, and remediation of contaminated sites.Assignments may include working as an individual or as part of a project team to assist with performing or coordinating the completion of ASTM Phase I environmental site assessments in support of property transactions; helping to design, implement, and coordinate activities associated with Phase II investigations, including investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and vapor intrusion; interpreting data and developing site conceptual models; developing site management strategies and response action plans (RAPs), including conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; estimating costs associated with these types of activities; completing contracting associated with these activities; assistance with the preparation of technical reports; and responding to quotes and proposals.Other responsibilities may include on-site investigations of contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, surface water, and soil gas; aquifer test performance and analysis; and construction observation. On-site investigation tasks may involve observing drilling and monitoring well installation, classifying soil and bedrock samples, and collecting samples for field screening and laboratory analysis. While the position is in Minneapolis, periodic travel is required.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in geology, hydrogeology, or related disciplines5 or more years of relevant work experienceStrong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members, regulators, and clientsStrong technical and problem-solving skillsAttention to detail, accuracy, and completenessStrong computer skills, including word processing and use of spreadsheetsA flexible working style and the ability to work independently and with teams of specialists to meet client and project needsWillingness to travel and periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs (including up to 15% travel and up to 30% fieldwork expected; project needs will vary seasonally and over time)Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving recordLegal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the futurePreferred Qualifications:Master's degree in environmental, civil, geological, or chemical engineering; geology; or hydrogeology; or related disciplinesRegistered professional geologist or ability to become registered within one year40-hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard (HAZWOPER) certificationProject management and leadership experience with complex projectsExperience conducting communications, meetings, and negotiations with clients and regulatory and agency personnelExperience with staff mentoring, building client relationships, and business developmentA hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and one's home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Minneapolis, Duluth, or Hibbing, Minnesota, offices.NOTE: Some work locations may feature rough terrain typical of construction sites and may also require entering and working in facilities that include limited accessibility, moving machinery, and other conditions typical of industrial facilities. Job assignments may involve work on waste disposal sites and sites requiring cleanup of hazardous materials. An OSHA-mandated physical exam may be required. Safety training will be provided.
