Job Description
The Geographic Information System (GIS) Specialist reviews, processes and posts information concerning installation, maintenance and operation of Company facilities in Esri Geographic Information System.
This position also uses PaperVision Enterprise and PaperVision Capture to maintain permanent records for Company gas facilities following specific indexing standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires one year of experience working in an engineering office or equivalent; technically oriented high school or college studies, including drafting, higher math courses, GIS and business courses may be substituted for required experience.
This position must have knowledge of drafting practices and skills; technical layout procedures; office equipment including reproduction equipment, calculators and personal computers; mapping, record keeping and design standards; computer mapping/drafting techniques and associated peripheral devices and have advanced PC and workstation fundamental knowledge.
Knowledge in Windows operating systems, such as, Field Operations Management System (FOMS), Esri GIS and AutoCAD software applications is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Meet and maintain the physical requirements of the position.
May be required to be on-call.
Must be able to be contacted and respond for emergency duty when on-call.
May be required to report to base location or emergency site within one hour or as division operational needs dictate, subject to Division VP approval, when on-call.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Must be available to perform shift work, staggered work week, including recognized holidays.
Must be available to work overtime.
May be required to wear a company-issued uniform.
Must be able to wear and use all personal protective safety equipment as operating conditions dictate.
Must be able to work in another location, district, or department.
Must be able to work outdoors, exposed to extremes in temperatures and conditions.
May be exposed to natural gas during the course of work.
Must successfully complete all aspects of required training.
Must comply with Company rules of general conduct, Company policies and procedures Must be able to use a computer.
TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS Process and post information concerning installation, maintenance and operation of Company facilities Maintain working technical proficiency on FOMS, FieldSmart, AutoCAD, Excel, and/or the electronic mapping system (Esri GIS) May prepare facility design and construction drawings Perform field visits Operate and maintain peripheral devices associated with the electronic mapping system such as plotters, scanners, and printers Use office equipment such as calculators, reproduction equipment, and personal computers Use and know the filing systems for all graphic records, as-built drawings, and other related engineering information Use Company design and material standards in the preparation of Company facilities Use FOMS in conjunction with other related software packages Use and know electronic mapping system thematic mapping processes to update and maintain any specialty maps required Provide support during emergency response incidents Train and give assistance to others as needed Quality check other employees and contractors as required Communicate effectively with field personnel regarding design drawings, measurements, and basic gas flow characteristics Quality check as-built drawings Perform duties in a manner that is in compliance with Company, local, state and federal regulations, safety and emergency practices and procedures Promote good public relations Use Company approved equipment to gather Global Positioning System data on gas facilities Perform other duties as assigned Regular and predictable attendance is a condition of employment and is an essential function of the job SALARY DETAILS
