Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Senior Electrical Protection Engineer at our Cortez operation.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of our substations, power distribution, and generation systems.

Responsibilities: Conduct in-depth analyses and studies focused on power systems, including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash and protective device coordination studies. Demonstrate advanced technical knowledge and troubleshooting skills in substation protection and control design, power distribution, and generation systems with voltage levels up to 120kV, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Ability to diagnose and resolve complex electrical power system issues efficiently. Perform supervisory and professional electrical engineering work in the design, investigation and construction of electric infrastructure projects and to do related work as required. Manage engineering design consultants to ensure the development of robust power system designs for surface and underground mining projects, providing technical guidance and review throughout the design process. Perform complex studies of technical, environmental and economic feasibility, engineering field studies and related studies pertaining to proposed and existing system facilities. Provide oversight for the construction and commissioning of power system-related surface and underground mining projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements. Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, environmental regulations, and industry standards in all power system activities, promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship. Ensure that all power system initiatives and projects align with the core values and objectives of Nevada Gold Mines, promoting efficiency, sustainability, and operational excellence. Coordinate with and manage external contractors and consultants involved in Electrical System projects, ensuring adherence to project scope of work, deliverables, timelines, budget, and quality standards. Work with other engineering personnel of limited experience in an advisory capacity or supervisory capacity. Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements within power system operations, implementing best practices and innovative solutions. Oversee power system-related projects from initiation to completion, including scope definition, scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license, or Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam preferred. Minimum of five years of experience in power systems engineering, preferably in a mining or utility setting required. Proficiency in power system analysis software such as ETAP required. Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., MASHA, NEC, NESC, IEEE, NETA) required. Experience with managing external contractors and consultants required. Experience with AcSELerator Quickset, RTAC, & GE Enervista required. SCADA related skill sets referred.
Experience with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Project) required. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
